Totally shocked, in a good way!

DD (6) has just been for a follow up appt at the allergy clinic. We discovered she was allergic to peanuts when she was 12 months and after months of fighting we got her referred when she was two. She reacted strongly to peanuts in the skin prick test.

Well today she didn't! No reaction to the first test or the second with actual peanut butter. She has had a blood test taken to see if they can challenge her.

I was told not to get too excited as she could still be allergic, but surely this is good?? I am walking on air as I really didn't think this was likely. Sorry just had to share .

Has this happened to anyone else? Could this really be the end of her allergy?

That's brilliant! My DS is 16 months and has had a fairly strong skin prick reaction to peanuts. We were advised it's a long term, if not lifelong allergy so I'm very pleased for you... and it does give me some hope!

Thanks Butterfingerz. I really hope the same happens for your DS, living with allergies is such nightmare.

We are still waiting for the blood test results so can't get carried away but as she reacted to peanut butter on her skin when we first discovered her allergy, the fact that test was negative gives us real hope.

I was told it is unusual to grow out of it, but there is a higher chance if there is no excema, asthma or other allergies. If they do grow out of it it is usually before the age of 5.

I'll update when we have the results.

It happened to us, but the bloods confirmed the allergies were still present. I think he had some antihistamine still in his system when we did the skin prick test (thanks DH ). DS was 4 though, so I live in hope we may get better news as he gets older. His cousin outgrew various allergies including peanut by the age of 12, I cling to this
