Could this be a side-effect of the brown inhaler (Clenil Modulite)?

Hello. Some of you already know my DS of 15 mo has multiple allergies, and three weeks ago we began to use a brown inhaler: 2 puffs twice a day. Thing is, I think it has caused his reflux (which we thought he'd outgrown ages ago) to come back. He has thrown up quite violently three times shortly after taking the evening dose, and is also quite refluxy during the day (I can tell when he's regurgitating food and then swallowing it and looking uncomfortable).

It has got to the point where he retches as soon as I put his bedtime bottle to his lips, and this is particularly heartbreaking because that's when he gets most of his Pepti and it's always been his favourite part of the bedtime routine. Last night he drank a bit without gagging, but that was only because as an experiment I had only given him the morning dose for two days running.

I won't bore you with more details, but I've ruled out a new allergy or a bug as a possible cause.

I'm going to take him to the GP this evening, but wanted to see if you think this theory is completely insane? After all, I thought that such a relatively low dose would cause no problems!

And I've just had to pick him up from nursery because he was sick. I gave him two puffs this morning. I don't know what is going on and it's driving me insane!

Hi garlic, I was just thinking of your DS and hoping you are having a bit more luck with his vomiting. Any improvement since stopping the inhaler? And did you manage to get hold of your allergy consultant?

If there's anything I can do to help please let me know. The unknown symptoms are such a nightmare to deal with. And emotionally draining too.

Our dietician called us today and will be posting out some supplements for dd to try. And we are seeing Helen Cox again next week, but they think dd probably has more allergies that we need to get to the bottom of. Not sure how much more food we can cut out of her diet. But it's so lovely to have a helpful team who are always at the end of the phone, so really hoping you are having some luck too. :)

Choca, I've just realised you replied to this thread too! How kind and lovely of you to have been thinking of my DS. Well, as you know already, his vomiting stopped completely as soon as we switched to montelukast. So now it's a question of reintroducing all the foods I eliminated, including soya (and thanks again for your reassurance about that!).

So, how has your DD been getting on? I'm worried about them saying she might have more allergies... has she been reacting to new things lately? Poor DD! It's great you're seeing Dr Cox again, though. Will you let me know how you get on? Thinking of you...!
