Allergies and intolerances

After 3+ years of avoiding egg, I was somewhat surprised to find.....

....parmesan style cheese with egg in it. WTF??

DS1 has now outgrown his allergy, but turns out ds2 is also mildly allergic/intolerent. He had the tell tale grumpiness and runny bum and i traced it back to the parmesan.

DS1 was also intolerent to dairy, so wouldn't have been having cheese anyway, so this was a new one on me. Shock

I checked 5 different types of hard cheese/parmesan in the supermarket, and 3 of them had lyzosyme (from egg).

I'm sure many of you who have to avoid egg will already know this, but just thought I would post to bring it to the attention of others who don't.

Thanks so much. My DD has only recently been told egg is another one to avoid so thanks for this tip. And good luck!

Other odd things you might want to look out for Choca also include gravy granules and pesto. Some do contain egg and some don't, so if you are eating away from home then you need to avoid unless you can check the ingredients.

Thanks so much. Any tips are welcome. Allergies are such a minefield :( With the nut allergy we already spend all our time reading everything but now we heed to add egg, and cows milk protein to the list. So I guess the Parmesan would have been out anyway, but the gravy granules I wouldn't have thought of. Can't have pesto because of the nuts :(
I hope both your DS's outgrow it all soon.

I discovered this a couple of days ago, it was manchego cheese. DD2 eats parmesan without any problems so maybe her egg allergy is very mild?
