Does Librium really help with withdrawal symptoms?

Hi, my partner has been prescribed Librium which I'm collecting today. Been unable to find much about the success rates etc on the internet as it mostly refers to how to come off of Librium (which in itself can be addictive). He is pinning all his hopes on this helping through the really bad withdrawal symptoms that he experiences when trying to reduce let alone stop completely. We know he has to let the alcohol leave his system then start the Librium in the doses directed by pharmacist.
Anyone else had any experience with it or any advice?
Thanks

Is your partner taking part in an outpatient detox programme? It's very unusual to be prescribed chlordiazepoxide (Librium) outside of a detox programme these days - I was only ever given it in hospital, with no option to take the script home, and the recovery agency I attend will only administer the meds on the premises.

Chlordiazepoxide is very effective at helping with the physical symptoms of withdrawal, making the process safer, but your partner really should be under the care of an addiction recovery agency, including during the post-detox phase.

How is he now?
