Hi

I’d like some advice on how to stop going too far with drunk when I’m out with friends?

I don’t drink much in the week but I do when I’m out.. I go way over the top, make an idiot of myself and can’t temeber most of the night!

I want to just be able to go out and have a few, be merry but in control!

Thanks

Hi
I was you 25 years ago. People prone to alcohol abuse often lack an in internal "off switch" that tells us when we've had enough and need to stop. Since we lack that mechanism and alcohol lowers inhibition and judgment we keep drinking until it's way over the top.

I had to stop completely and I don't think that there's a way to create the "off switch".

Good luck.

Yeah I’m not sure... I like a glass of wine. I can sit at home, open a bottle and just have one.

I can go to a friends and just have one.

But when I go out I just can’t stop... I’m out this weekend and really going to try to limit myself.

Thank you!!

Drink plenty of water before and during a night out - some of this could be thirst.

Your drinking is a problem for you, even if it isn’t an addiction. It sounds as though you are using it for a fast wind down. You need to unpack why you are doing this a bit more before you can overcome it.
