I am on page 92 of this book and I'm loving it so far. It seems to make a lot of sense. Has it worked for anyone else?

So as not to drip feed I know I drink too much but quite a 'normal' amount in my circle. I love wine and champagne and cocktails and socialising, it doesn't affect my work but I need to cut down as I worry about my health long term. I don't want to give up just cut down and the thought of not drinking at Christmas etc isn't pleasant but from the reviews I've seen people seem to give up completely after reading it.

I'm almost 3/4 of the way though the book, it makes a lot of sense to me. However, he doesn't advocate 'cutting down' his intention is really to help people quit as he believes if you drink any amount of alcohol you are not in control of it.

I came on to post this. I've been drinking most days for years and knew I had a problem. I wouldn't have a drink until 9 p.m. and would go to bed before midnight. I'd drink about half a bottle of wine but lately in the last few months this had been going up.

I read half of the Jason Vale book on Saturday and haven't even thought of alcohol since. It's a really easy read and while he's not exactly a great writer and his knowledge of science is a bit dodgy, he says so many things that really make me think hard about alcohol.

So now it's Tuesday night, no alcohol since Friday night, haven't even given it a thought and it has to be down to that book.

I read the book thinking I would cut down my drinking. In 3 months I have had one drink in a night out that I didn't enjoy drinking. I don't even miss booze.

I used to drink up to half a bottle of vodka a night.

I have no idea how Jason Vale does it but it works! ! It has also worked on my dh

Read the book two and a half years ago and haven't had a drink since. (Was a very heavy drinker/functioning alcoholic)
I know I will never drink again, you are about to become free!

Btw the thought of Xmas , weddings etc without booze used to fill me with horror ! .... it is SO weird to find it wasn't the booze making them fun after all

I started reading the book on Monday but stopped drinking on Sunday. I'm 100pages in and feel so much better already.
I had been having nearly half a bottle of vodka a day for the last 3 years.
I feel so much calmer. I don't ever want to go back to my old ways. I'm not craving alcohol at all (much to my amazement) but I know it's early days.

I bought the book after finding this thread and am struggling with it a bit to be honest. I haven't got through it yet though. It's not easy to read with 2 little ones though. I will persevere. I do enjoy a little drink at night time, socialising doesn't come into it. I only drink a little and then go to sleep. I don't do any of the negative behaviours described when drinking. I will finish the book and keep an open mind.

Just read this as my DH bought it as he's trying to cut down as he drinks way too much. I had no intention of stopping , was just interested in the concept of the book . But it has really made me question my drinking and I've not had any since I finished it ... despite going to a social occasion where I'd normally have drunk probably a bit too much. I probably will drink again but I think my relationship with alcohol has changed.

Just seen this thread, i would be very inferested in getting this book for my son, he has been to detox and rehab, for 3 months ,but day he came home bought a bottle of wine, but not drinking like before
I am very disappointed in him, as he has had a chance not everyone has, and our Dr has been brilliant,
My daughter stopped smoking with the book .[forgot who by now] i read it,but didnt,i did eventually with champix
So these books dont work for everyone,
I will try to find this book
Maybe the library will have it
Thank you to the OP for this thread, its worth trying

I read this a month ago and it literally transformed me overnight. I was getting to a point where I really didn't feel in control of my alcohol consumption so I was ready to hear what he had to say. I haven't had anything to drink since I read it and I really don't want to either. To give some perspective, I was drinking five nights out of seven with at least a couple of those nights being a bit more than a bottle of wine (so a bottle and a gin and tonic or a pint of lager or a whiskey at the end of the evening). Alcohol has always been a massive part of the rhythm of my life but somehow I don't miss it. Christmas only concerns me because people will ask me about it but otherwise I feel really good about it.

Well done, my son still hasn't read the book yet, he started reading it,but I don't think he has got very far,he is drinking again but nothing like he was,
Also just got a new flat which I am hoping will help, by giving him some incentive, he is planning what he is going to do with it,and choosing furniture and decorating etc,

I do think that, with all these things whether it be smoking, drinking, whatever, you have to be receptive to the message in the first place. If your son isn't ready a book won't help but if he's already started making changes then it's worth a shot. One thing I would say - I read this in a day and I think that the intensity of the message really helped.

Was wondering if it was worth the price but am downloading this book now. I would like to just cut down to weekend drinking but if I stopped wanting to drink altogether that would be good I'd save a fortune.

I leant my copy to someone about 6 or so years ago. Never got it back. Grrr. My new copy arrived today, apparently it has been updated. About to dive in.

Good luck Catherine & enjoy the read.
I went out last night everyone was sharing many bottles of wine & I didn’t want any! Long may it last!

I’ve started the book this week but had a few glasses of prosecco last night! He does say not to try and quit until you’ve finished the whole book though...

To be fair I had less than I normally would and still feel dreadful today so I’m not feeling like drinking again any time soon.

Well done Felix. I'm on day 20 of being dry. Test will be on Sunday afternoon when I'm out having a celebratory lunch for (hopefully) running my first ever half marathon. So far so good though.

I had a great night & didn’t drink alcohol.
Bit disappointed as I mentioned going to see a band play & my friend said she won’t go unless I drink! Apparently she won’t enjoy the venue unless she has a drink & wont drink alone Confused

Wow that's pretty selfish. She has 3 choices she goes with you and doesn't drink or drinks alone or doesn't go at all. Cheeky cow! Don't let anyone force you to drink that's ridiculous!

I think unless we get a few more friends to go she won’t come. I think she’s going to start distancing herself from me. But honestly if alcohol is that important to her -so be it

CatherineCawood · 24/02/2018 17:59

That's pretty sad isn't it. Maybe she isn't such a great friend she very unsuportive. Have you told her why you've given up?

Report
FelixCited · 24/02/2018 18:19

She can handle the thought of me going on a detox (I cut out drink for 6 weeks late last year)
And I did ‘dry january’ which she moaned about but counted down the days.. she needs an end point— and she’s freaking out that it might be no booze forever.
