Today, I've had enough of alcohol ruining my life. I've had a problem for years. Lately it's got worse and I don't want to end up in a place I'll never come back from.

So here is is, I'm suffering a god awful hangover today. And pleased to be telling myself it will be the last. I was drinking to forget, block out the loneliness and all the shit stuff. But it only makes life even shittier. So any helpful tips or advice or stories you'd like to share please do. I need all the support I can get right now.

I have 2 lovely DCs. A lovely DP that I love to bits and I know alcohols has made me difficult to be with at times and I want that to change. I have my own professional business which I work part time and I'm studying towards a degree and great family and friends. So look at all these great things I have in my life. Over the years I've had a lot of testing times and alcohol became my crutch. Even with this stinking hangover i feel great today, first day of the rest of my life and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it!

Don't want your post to go unnoticed, well done for the motivation. Get some lovely cordials and herbal teas or hot chocolate in. Have some early nights. You will love waking up refreshed in the morning and once a week is under your belt you won't want to look back. Good luck, update the post won't yousmile

The Dry 17 in Relationships is a great thread for support. Best of luck OP.

Good on you op. Take it a day at a time. You've done one day already, you should be really proud of yourself.

Good luck, I don't have any tips but I've seen my sister get dragged lower and lower due to alcohol so it's good to see you so determined to stop drinking. You have some great reasons to give up.

Thankfully my sister finally got help, went through five months in rehab and three years on she's doing really really well but she honestly did hit rock bottom and it caused untold upset and stress for all of her loved ones.

Well done you. Don't try to do it alone. Google Tommy Rosen, he does some great podcasts.

Day 3 No alcohol! My usual thought process tried to sneak in last night, just one bottle of wine won't hurt etc etc. Felt anxious for a while but the feelings gradually passed and happy relieved thoughts took over I still don't want to drink. One day at a time smile

YabuDabbaDoo Wed 09-Nov-16 20:25:25

That's great work Hurricane. One day at a time! Are you accessing any support?

HurricaneSwallows Wed 09-Nov-16 22:06:47

Apart from talking on here no. I'm going to download the Jason cake book and read a chapter tonight. Tonight has been a tough one to resist. But it's nearly time for bed and I've made it so far. Day 3 nearly over

Wolfiefan Wed 09-Nov-16 22:10:32

Well done OP. It's allowed to be tough. You should be proud of what you've achieved. Hoping the book feels like a lovely reward.
You're going to feel so much better. flowers

Thanks Wolfie. I've just noticed my typo. I meant Jason Vale! Kicking the drink. Although Jason cake has a better ring to it grin.

It is tough but it will be so worth it. Thank you all for your support and kind thoughts and words

YabuDabbaDoo Wed 09-Nov-16 22:52:54

Yeah! Good work! You deserve this!

katheroo Wed 16-Nov-16 22:15:03

The Jason vale book changed my life, and it really has been easy! It's been about 3 months since I did exactly what you did (woke up with yet another hangover ) and decided it would be my last. Thank god for that book as it feels like I've been released from a trap and I am so much happier and healthier now. Good luck OP, I hope the book helps you as much as it's helped me !
