No father's name on birth cert...easy adoption?????

I have a four year old son that my partner wants to adopt as he is the only father he has known. We have been together for 2.5 years, plan on getting married and are having another child in Feb next year.

My questions is: what do the courts do when there is no father's name on my son's birth certificate? He was not around from the time I was about 5 months pregnant and have been on my own since then. He has no part whatsoever in my son's life and I have no contact with him, neither do I know where he is. Does this mean that I have sole parental responsibility? My partner is a wonderful dad and my son does not know any different, he is his 'daddy' and he wants to adopt. Does anyone know my position? Thanks

I am not a laywer. But i think that you will be expected to give detailed information about your son's father so he can be traced and his consent sought.
