So the great news it that after our initial interview visit to our house we have been contacted to say they have signed us up for the 3 day course which is at the end of march.
Will anything happen between now and then? in terms of checks etc?
We get our social worker and they start doing the regular home visits after the course?
Also i dont seem to be able to find a schedule for the three days of what to expect each day.

I think you’re about to start stage 1 of the process. Please see a helpful diagram in this link that explains the different stages in the process:

Stage 1 is meant to take approx. 2 months and Stage 2 is meant to take approx. 4 months (6 months in total). However it may be longer to due admin delays.

Or actually you might be about to start stage 2. During stage 2 you will undertake the 3-day training, a home study will be undertaken (this will normally involve several weekly visits by the social worker at your place), your proposed references will be interviewed, and the social worker will put together the prospective adopters’ report (PAR) to present together with you at a formal panel at the end of the process.

Where are you based? @JohnPA has described the system in England, the other nations look quite different so if you can tell us which nation you’re in, we can talk you through it.

We are also in South Wales. After the three day training course you will be able to officially apply to start the adoption process and will then be allocated a social worker and undertake DBS etc. Medical checks are usually undertaken once assessment if well underway unless there are any known issues which may need further investigation. They will explain the process in more detail during the course.
The course looks at reasons children need adopting, attachment and the impact of this on the child along with some scenarios, and you can meet adopters and discuss their experiences. It's really informative.
