Nursery Advice

Hi all

Looking for some advice

Our DS (3 nearly 4) goes to nursery full time, he was doing half days until the summer but since has been doing full days.

He is dry at home but had the odd wetting accident at school but over the last couple of months he has been wetting himself at school every day.

When I asked to speak to his teacher about what might be causing it she said they wanted to refer him for Community Paediatrician and Occupational Therapy assessment. Besides the wetting she said he struggles to sit still on the carpet and at lunch.

To us it feels like a bit of an over reaction given his age and we don’t see any extreme behaviour at home.

Has anyone else faced this approach by a nursery?

A community paediatric referral will just mean an appointment every 6 months where they keep an eye on his development.

Most kids catch up and it amounts to nothing, but if he does have some delay it's better to put interventions in early.

Not where I am, children here aren’t expected to be in school until they’re 5 and pre-school is wholly play based so my expectations of 3 year olds to be fully toilet trained, able to sit on a carpet or sit at lunch are wholly different it seems to pretty much all of mumsnet.

Given that, for me it seems like a massive over reaction, because I wouldn’t expect 3 year olds to manage all of that consistently. Are there other signs of developmental delay?
