Hi all,

Looking to chat and potentially make friends with others who are in the same boat or have any wise words to give!

Myself and my partner had a visit from an Adoption Agency last week so we are right at the very beginning of the process.

We don’t have any children currently and think we would like to adopt older children - between ages of 2-7, and perhaps a sibling set of up to 2. I’m wondering if anyone on here has experience of adopting a child of around 7 years old?

Hoping this may be a place for me to chat because at the moment we are trying to tell as few people as possible! Feeling a bit nervous but excited at the same time.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm also looking to hear more about people's adoption experiences. Me and DH are considering finding out more information about adoption.

We have 3 birth child, the youngest of which is 3. I'd like to hear from others who are new to the process and also those who have expieneve of being successful in the process despite already having birth children.

Hi, it’s great to hear there are some people also in a similar position. Myself and my DH are also looking to adopt 2 siblings between the ages of 3-7 and have just had a chat with the Local Authority adoption service this week with a date for next month to attend a duscussion day.
I’m have been trying to find out how much experience they are looking for with children, we have lots of friends with similar aged children but we do not babysit for them so I’m wondering if we need to volunteer somewhere, guess I will find out at the meeting!
Good luck with the process! I will update once I have more information from them ☺️

My DC are recently placed aged 4 and 6, there have certainly been challenges but I wouldn't change them for the world. Feel free to pm me if I can help.

Hi 👋🏻

We have a home visit booked to discuss whether we would be considered on Friday! Eeeeek! Very nervous! In fact I’m taking a quick break right now from scrubbing skirting boards on my hands and knees and de-cluttering the spare room that would be potentially a LO’s bedroom!

Would love to buddy up if our application is taken forward

Hey Baylis. In the same boat here. Have had our initial meeting and now waiting on appointment for our medical and then hopefully starting prep course in March. Exciting times ahead!

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your replies! I am still in stage one (stage 2 at end of January), feels like a lifetime has passed since I posted first message! Feels like I've been on this journey for ages whereas it hasn't even been 2 months yet! Have had lots of meetings with our social worker already, it feels very full on. Right now I'm trying to do as much reading and researching as possible. Exciting times for lots of people... good luck everybody.
