I’ve namechanged but am a semi regular on these boards, but something lovely happened yesterday I just wanted to share.
I have two adopted dds and 2 birth sons, none of which have any other parent involved. 3 years ago I started dating a lovely man but for obvious reasons we have been taking it insanely slow.
His mother met them just earlier this year and has been very lovely, if quiet and slightly hesitant with them all
well yesterday we were out to lunch and she was chatting with her friends And I happened to over hear one of her friends commenting that my youngest dd clearly wasn’t my ‘real’ daughter (she looked very different) and that if me and her son lasted she’d never have any real grandchildren (I’ve had a hysterectomy)
we all encounter these comments unfortunately and learn to deal with them and I was just gearing up to say something without making a scene when my mild mannered MIL stood up and stated that that’s as the most insulting thing she’d ever heard, absolutely disgraceful and she loudly demanded an apology to her and myself and my dd (who it turned out thankfully hadn’t heard anything) that she would be lucky to have us in her life.
She was furious I thought i was going to have to lead her away at one point.
It felt so lovely to be stood up for like that, there are some lovely people in the world. We had a long chat afterwards and she explained how she had been hesitant incase she stepped on my toes but she would never stand by and let people say such things and that she thought i was a wonderful mother. I cried.
We got a very shamefaced apology as well 😊
