BBC documentary - an interesting watch

This documentary was on BBC 4 on Sunday night. It is about the work of the Pause project that works with women who have had multiple children removed in helping them to rebuild their lives in a positive way to give them a better future. it provides helpful insight into the effects of the loss on birth families.

watching now - about halfway through and so sad for the BM's whose LOs were removed due to DV. Very sad.

the letterbox viewpoint was very interesting - we don't get a reply, its hard thinking about why that is....

I've always hoped our BP can rebuild their lives, I think every person deserves hope - what else is there? I could not live without my kids - quite frankly I don't know how BP get through the days...and its no wonder drink/drugs are so often involved after removal

Miracle - just out of curiosity have you ever found any support for BP's? I've looked previously for myself and essentially hit brick walls other than something that felt like it was added on as an after thought.

It's very hard to get support. Depending where you are in the country anxious. I'm London based. There is PAC who do help, but the most help I got was via adoption counselling which the local authority provided- after being pushed by my solicitor. They do still have a duty of care and should provide this too.

Miracle I am sorry I can't suggest any agencies that do help birth families specifically nationwide. Pause do operate in some London boroughs though you can look them up. I think though they work on a referral base. I can tell from your posts you have come a long way and I am full of admiration for you. I do hope you continue to have acces to support to continue to build your life. I have seen first hand the effects of loosing a child to adoption has on birth family and I know that it is something you never get over even if people manage to go on and sort their lives out and have further children who can remain with them. It was brilliant and really nice to see something which at the end I found uplifting not just all sadness like a lot of stuff I have seen about adoption. The letter that one of the birth mothers wrote to her adopted son was amazing and will mean so much to him. What the charity does is amazing. I think this documentary is a must see for those considering and involved in adoption. It was so brave of the birth mothers to take part. I am sure there are many who never opened the door to them and never will which is a shame.

Yes Italian, it really was. It struck a chord with me as having seen first hand a couple of birth parents grasping with both hands the last lifeline being offered to them and for one particularly it was the start of changing a lifetime of behaviours. I have a passion to see more of this type of work available to support a lifelong change! It was a helpful film for those involved, and in particularly in the early stage of adoption, in allowing them to get a deeper understanding of the situations hat can lead to the hectic lifestyles that some birth families have.

I watched it today. These programmes are always heart breaking but I thought the women and Pause came across very positively.
