We got asked if we might be interested in adopting 2 girls by a friends brother and wife, they're their grandchildren.

Has anyone any experience of doing something similar? We went through the 1st stage of the adoption process then had to withdraw as I lost my job.. just wondering if the situation would be any different were we to be interested in these children?

I actually work in this area of social care. It's a little more complicated and it's not that likely if you don't have an existing relationship with them or are ore approved.
I assume they are in care proceedings?
The judges are very concerned with delay.
Would you like to pm? I can give you a little more specific advice Smile

Not sure about adoption or the ins and outs of the case but I reckon a good place to start could be to have BPs (assuming the kids are on interim care orders) put you forward for a viability assessment which will then help to them to decide if you're an appropriate carer to meet these kids needs. They can formally request this through their solicitor if social care resist. Obviously I don't know what stage in the process the family are at or their specific circumstances but would be a good starting point. If this isn't the best course of action it opens the dialogue and lets social care know that you might be interested in pursuing this and they can advise you on how to proceed. Hope that helps. I worked in a SW team up until 5 years ago but procedures and policies change all the time so this might not be the most up to date way this is dealt with but it kind of throws your hat in the ring.

Hope that helps xx
