Emigrating with adopted children

We have two adopted DC who have been with us for 5 years. They have settled well and there have not been any major issues. For various reasons we are considering moving to DH's home country. The DC have visited there and liked it and we are in regular contact with family and friends there. However, we are concerned about the impact such an upheaval would have on them. We would be nearer family , some of whom have DC the same age as ours and family here live 200 miles away. The Dc are very settled at school and have friends there, know the routine and the teachers. They have various extra cirricular activities most of which they would be able to do in the new country if they wanted but obviously it would be starting again with a whole new group of people . Not just a new school but a new school system. The country is English speaking so no language issues and DC are 9 and 7. Has anyone else done this and if so how did it go?

Yes

It's been up and down - but I honestly don't know whether the same issues would have arisen if we had stayed put. To an extent, `if you were considering moving across town so that they had to go to different schools and couldn't go to the same extra curricular activities they would have a similar shift in the change in their situation.

A couple of things to think about...

Depending on where you are considering, you might find that adoption is very different there, and so support services - as well as the experience of people like teachers - may well not be particularly applicable or helpful.

You might need to not work for quite some time to help with the transition / settling in
