Will DS become a politician?

Visited family during half term, had a lovely time.

Someone was smoking outside the front door..

DS "Why are you smoking? It's bad for you"
Relative "Because I'm stupid"
DS "Well you should stop, it's going to kill you"
Relative "But I've got to die of something"
DS "yes but I'm going to die of old age and you're going to die young of heart disease or cancer"
Relative "ummmmm........"

Shock

We've never had this conversation before except the smoking is bad for you bit.

I admired the certainty of youth though and as nice relative said ruefully "Outmaneuvered by an 8 yr old!"

I know!

He should present a TV health program, you know like the weight ones where the TV doctor tells the morbidly obese person in no uncertain terms that they're going to die unless they lose weight, and then make them eat a horrid special diet and do excercise

He can do one of those, or a stop smoking one Grin

He sounds like a much younger version of a cardiac consultant I used to work with Grin

Hysterical! What a gem of a conversation. Was relative suitably embarrassed?! Well done mini-Kew.

My dd (then about 7) wondered if we should tell a group of teenagers smoking in the park that it was bad for them, I chickened out and said I thought they probably already knew! Kudos to your DS Kew. Wink

Lasting - relative was more embarrassed at being talked into a corner by an 8 year old!

I work in the NHS and was perhaps slightly over zealous about the dangers of smoking. Until the day we went out with my dearest friend who smokes, she lit up in the park and DS said in total horror 'she is smoking. She is going to DIE!'

I think he expected it to happen then and there on the spot :)

sadly lovely friend was not persuaded and remains a smoker
