Adoption

Looking for advice - will I be turned down?

Hi
We have a ds aged 5 but have suffered secondary infertility. We don't feel our family is complete and are now in the early stages of considering adoption.
I've always ruled it out because I suffered from depression about ten years ago and also I am a type 1 diabetic so I've always assumed we would be turned down.

Would we? I'm 31 and dh is 40.

Thanks for any advice.

I know a lot of people who have adopted with previous (resolved now) depression, so that shouldn't worry you. Diabetes shouldn't be a problem provided its well controlled and well managed, but I don't know much about it personally... I definitely think you shouldn't rule yourself out, these two issues you mention sound minor to me.

Depression is now resolved - it was mainly in my late teenage years.
Diabetes is well controlled. It's never prevented me from looking after the child I have now.

Dh isn't too old is he?

I have a friend who is much older than you and has multiple sclerosis who has just been accepted so no, don't assume you'll be turned down at all :)

Your DH is not too old, especially with you as a younger spouse.

My DH turned 50 the week we started intros with our then 8 and 2.5 yr olds. I was 40 later that year.
