Adoption

Competitive Links

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of these? We are due to meet the social worker and know they are considering one other adopter. I was wondering if we try to prepare like we would for matching panel or ignore the fact it is a competitive link and just be ourselves? I want to come over all Meredith Grey..."Pick me. Choose me. Love me" but I am guessing that will not be the right approach?!

I hated being in competition for a child/children. It happened 3 times and we were rejected on each occasion (one being because we didn't have enough childcare experience). But we never got to meet the SW.

I am of course now pleased we were passed over in favour of another couple as we wouldn't have ended up with our gorgeous DS.

So - as we were unsuccessful I have no real advice though I do think you should just be yourself and show how strongly you feel about child.

Good luck. It's not an easy situation to be in but perhaps be philosophical about the end result (easier said than done...I got quite low after our third rejection...)

Just be yourselves. It is all about the right match for the child and if that is you, great, and if not, then it is for the best. Just to honest and try not to stress.

It's a horrible time - we were told our link was between us and 2 other couples and I found the wait so hard. Unfortunately it's out of your hand so try to be calm and think positive thoughts. If the match is right, you will get there, otherwise it means your little one is still to be found. Best of luck!
