Anyone else nearly burnt out after this Easter break.....?? DD (14) (alongside our three other younger children) has made me sad, mad and a little bit bad these past couple of weeks, even though we have also had some nice times too. The 'roller coaster ride' doesn't come close really.

Anyone else...?? Come and talk to me...

Oh YES I am glad

We've had some lovely lovely days and some horrid days (the the okay ones). It's been pretty up and down

DS has mostly had a good time, he's been out and about playing football, swimming, and tried a taster Karate session which he enjoyed.

DD2 had some nice days as well, had fun, and tried to be helpful and kind....but managed to spectacularly prove how much she has to learn about what is safe and what is not, when she offered to make me a lemsip for my horrendous headache. I gave her the key to the medicine cabinet and she decided to crush in and add another 10 paracetamol tablets into the glass on top of the 1000mg already in the lemsip. At least I only took one tiny sip before realising it looked wrong and tasted too nasty. I seriously need to make sure she doesn't do this to herself when I'm not around to hand her pills when she needs them

Easter Saturday was mostly calm and relaxed and fun

DD2 made yesterday just great for me by stealing my Easter egg, eating most of it and then when I told her to give the rest of it back to me, she ran and flushed it down the loo to spite me. DS tried to give me one of his to make up for it. Then the two of them got into a half hour non stop shouting match, and for the first time in weeks DS had to give pocket money to the swear jar for an inventive use of the f word. Although DD's lovely language far surpassed that, especially when she started shouting at me because DS went outside. Then she had a massive tantrum in her room, clothes everywhere, stuff all over the floor, I thought the light down below was going to come off the ceiling

Today is tense. No one's had a fight or shouted but the leftover tension is pervading the house

I can't wait to have it to myself!!!!

wine for Lilka

we've still got a week to go on holiday smile We've had a few crappy days all trapped in the house together due to bad weather. But they're out in the garden the last couple of days, and I have opened a bottle of Mother's Comfort grin

We've spent a lot of time clearing old stuff out - I suspect I'm nesting with a vengance, and had some nice conversations about what we may call the new little sister we hope to add next year.

We've spent our days close to home and it has been worth it as I think we are all feeling very close, connected and relaxed.

Just for a change we have had a week of sunshine. DD (13) has alternated seeing a friend and doing her homework (after much nagging). She still has another week before going back. The spring term was a very long one and everyone has been getting very short with each other by the time they broke up. Unfortunately DD has spent all week suffering from a rotten cold that won't go away, so I am glad she has another week.

Kewcumber Mon 21-Apr-14 17:45:02

DS has fluctuated between being charm personified and between deciding he is really 14 and perfecting his glower.

Ladyofthehouse Mon 21-Apr-14 17:51:20

2 more days to go here....but I'd actually like longer! Oldest dd struggles with any change to routine so the first week was a the Thursday I was on the phone to my mum in tears! But once we get past that point both my dds are little angels and we've had lots of fun! Was the same at christmas!

Also helped having DH home last few days to share the load !

Devora Mon 21-Apr-14 20:27:49

Real highs and lows here. Right now I feel like weeping loudly and snorting into a large rum and coke. School starts tomorrow.

Devora Mon 21-Apr-14 20:29:20

For snorting, read snottily. Snorting into rum is neither elegant nor hygienic.

Devora Mon 21-Apr-14 20:30:38

Unlike snot, obv.

Ah sweet Mary, I'm losing me marbles.

Beastofburden Mon 21-Apr-14 20:31:29

Have just set alarm for really early o'clock tomorrow sad. All back to school, back to work, I would love another week....

Lilka Mon 21-Apr-14 20:36:15

Oh great the shouting's started again <head on keyboard with resigned defeat>

Come ON tomorrow

Devora see, I read your message as you actually DID have a rum and coke in front of you. I was getting jealous grin

Kewcumber Mon 21-Apr-14 20:47:18

rum and coke sounds good.

Have just read Harry Potter before bed through gritted teeth as DS got more and more irritating. I didn't exactly throw him into bed with a releived sigh...

Snap with myfeetarecold DH has gone back & he will be soon training abroad so that will be even longer ;,( helps so much when he's back.

Lovely holidays though! Especially as I was nervous based on the disaster of Christmas! DS is so much more settled I really enjoyed our time smile

Lilka Tue 22-Apr-14 11:40:59

They're NOT HERE. It's all peaceful shock

redfishbluefish Tue 22-Apr-14 16:52:43

Also missing the extra support of DH from over this weekend...!

Buster51 Tue 22-Apr-14 18:42:29

1st day back and feeling awful, ended up really shouting at DS about his behavior today in school & I'm feeling I overreacted & shouldn't have yelled :-( I've only yelled at him a hand full of times since placement but I feel utterly ashamed of myself!! :-(

Lilka Tue 22-Apr-14 19:39:31

I'm sorry Buster thanks Have some wine brew cake

Don't beat yourself up - we ALL have shouty moments/days/weeks. I lost it yesterday evening big time with DD2. If you've managed the whole placement so far with only a handfull of shouting episodes then I think you're pretty damn fabulous, honestly smile These shouty days won't change anything in the long run, and is very normal. So it's nothing to linger over in your mind - although I do understand, I also go over things I feel I shouldn't have done. I've had to learn the skill of forcing it out of my mind and focussing on other things. You're doing so well, really

Kewcumber Tue 22-Apr-14 20:23:44

Come and sit with me Buster - one day back at school and DS has had yellow cards and his teacher says he is "unmanageable". Actually I stayed calm - YAy me.

Chenin blanc tonight...

Buster51 Tue 22-Apr-14 20:31:25

Oh I certainly don't feel fabulous. Still stewing over it! :-( poor little mite must think I'm a maniac! Kew how do you stay so calm!? Tomorrow is another day & all that. Thanks both thanks

Polkadotpatty Tue 22-Apr-14 20:37:22
