Adoption

I am zen, I am calm, I am...not!

Hello people with wisdom,

I am looking for your top tips on achieving seconds/minutes/longer (bit apirational there?) of calm, during the joyous parts of prospective adoption that involve WAITING. I have done the approval panel bit, moderately patiently, and appreciated the time for thinking and reflecting. I am now counting down the weeks to a court hearing for a LO, who all SW's think is a really strong match for me. I feel it's a positive decision to wait for this LO (albeit with a degree of uncertainty about the outcome) but I am getting anxious. My "breeziness jar" is empty.

So, hit me with your very best tips! Polkadot Palace is not overflowing with cash, so moderately inexpensive is the preferred option. Thanking you and chewing my fingernails in eager anticipation!

find an estuary and someone with a kayak and paddle down it, end the day in a pub,

this works really well as it something you won't be able to do soon.

basically go and do something fun and adventurous that will occupy your body and mind.

here is a time wasting thread

I like that! Something I need to commit to concentrating on for a good block of time too like not capsizing

Tips for WAITING

  1. Accept you will go more than a little insane

  1. Knit something pointless

  1. Learn Russian.

Thats what I did.

Didn't work of course - you will go insane and drive every person within spitting distance of you insane too.

Hope that helps.

Goes off to start knitting three-fingered mittens, while strapped to linguaphone, and making improbable amazon wishlist Grin

Wait, is this why no-one's returning my texts?? Surely my friends and beloved family are dying to hear me go through the same list of worries one more freaking time? No? selfish lot

Feel better about my undisputed insanity levels, thanks!

I can remember when there was problems with my medical and I had to have a second medical after going to panel and being approved in principle pending a second medical opinion. Somebody said "But its just a little delay" (I had no medical arranged and no date for a second panel at that point and no idea what the second opinion would even say).

I think the person was a tad worried that I might actually stab them and started backing away nervously when she saw the look in my eyes.

I wasn't totally sane at the time.

Oh lord. People have only themselves to blame when they say such things. I am familiar with the old "moving goalposts" scenario, but a second medical and no timeframe makes me want to weep for you. And feel quite stabby on your behalf.

Totally reassured by your complete sanity now though - clearly no lasting damage was done, despite extreme provocation Wink

Oh, I hated the waiting! I threw myself into doing pretty much everything I couldn't do that easily with DC. I went for long walks, took up jogging and went swimming loads, found as many addictive apps as I could on my phone. I walked the Thames path out of sheer frustration.

Did it work? No. It stopped me from tapping my feet but my mind was pretty much firmly on 'oh my God, it's xx weeks/days until the panel' or whatever.
