Please can you advise me of the longest and shortest times from the first panel to bringing little one home?

Just trying to prepare myself!

This is, of course, assuming one is approved at panel........

!!!!

Thanks Thanks

Hi , we were approved in August and bought baby home in October but it was I'm exceptional circumstances and this prob isn't the norm .....

So so far the shortest time is 2 months (unless it was very end of August and very early October middlesxmummy? In which case just month!) and longest is 7 months Aladdinsane. But I expect there are others out there who waited a whole lot longer.

Thanks for replying.

We were approved early September, got THE call mid January, went to panel again for DD and met her mid March, so 6 months for us.

Approved April 2012, not a sniff of a link until May 2013, if all goes to plan matching panel July or August and home August/September, so at least 16 months. But I'm sure others have waited longer.

Middlesexmummy oh so 2 and a half months, 10 weeks, that is fast!

So 10 weeks to about 16 months so far!

Amazing variety.

Thanks so much.

Five weeks!

Panel to be approved; panel to be matched the next month; introductions started immediately; home with us after one week.

Sometimes they have children in mind as most sw s are family finding at the same time hence the speed to why some are placed with children quickly

2.5 years!

6 months, but the first 3 months of that was my LA looking for an in house match which was always very unlikely due to where I lived. Once those 3 months were up it all went a bit crazy!

My DB and his wife were approved in April and are bringing their daughter home this week

Devora · 10/06/2013 21:43

Approved October, dd came home August - 10 months.

Happyon - 2.5 years would have done my head in Sad

Approved march 2012, MP in 2 weeks, LO home mid July - cant beat Happyon though. Respect!
Devora Last 16 months have been awful - much worse than waiting for approval - but are starting to see light now.
Everything is crossed.

happyon · 10/06/2013 22:37

Yep, and not even a potential match in all that time. Nothing!

It depends on lots of things - We wanted an older child 5-7 and in our area there were no older children that were not part of sibling groups
We decided to lower our age range from 3 upwards and still no children so we went for any age and got a 15 month old
Christmas was another delay - our LA dont place around christmas so the whole of december was out

Approved early 9th September (ironically DS 1st birthday!)
Got details of DS on 22nd Dec
Matching panel 14th Feb

Moved in 23rd March.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr 3.5 yeas that is incredible.

I am not sure I can work out the average here! 5 weeks to 3.5 years ....1 year 8 months? Or should I take the median, most people seem to have waited about 6 months, how do you work out the median??

YES I know it will be what it will be, it's just doing my head in!

Thanks so much.

DC1 approved as adopters end of May , matched mid June, introductions started 11Sept , he moved in a week later.

DC2 approved end of Jan, matched mid March , came home beginning of June.

We were very very lucky for it all to happen so quickly.

I think the time waiting depends on 2 things:

1 - does your LA have any children waiting who would be a good match

2 - if they don't, are they prepared to actively pursue links for children from another area

I was very fortunate in that my SW actively looked for a child from outside the LA, and was happy for me to do so through BMP/CWW. However I've heard about a lot of people whose SW has not been happy to do this as they were stalling waiting for an in-house match. It might be worth asking your SW what their policy is and what they will do if they can't find a local match after 3 months.
