Word count for MA application?

How many words is too many for the personal statement on the application form? I've tried to stay succinct but it's still pushing 1400 words. Is this ok or too much?

Too much. Overall your research proposal and account of your reasons for applying shouldn’t be more than 1500 words. 1000 is enough especially for an MA.
