Open University Fees

I am looking into starting with the Open University this September/October to study an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences. I currently work full time and have a family so I would have to do it in my own time and doing the 60 credits a year will take me 6 years to complete, at least. The fees for a 60 credit course per year in England is £2864.00 so the total would be around £17184.00. The fees for a 60 credit course in Wales is £958.00 so the total here would be around £5748. WTAF?

So here's the thing...I live in England but I have only lived here a few years, I am originally from Wales. I have lots of family and friends there. Would it be incredibly cheeky and would anyone know if it is even possible for me to register at my mums address in Wales but study from home in England. Exams etc wont be a problem as I visit them quite often anyway. It's just such a massive difference.

To prove eligibility for fees, you may well need to do more than list your home address. (You certainly do for other universities.) You won't be able to prove that your mother's address is your real home address if you are on the electoral roll elsewhere and all your bills come to another address.

It is totally crazy. But blame the govt, not the OU!

I did an OU soc sci degree. Other than this probably being some sort of fraud, practically you will be allocated a local tutor for face to face tutorials (go to these! They are great) and an exam centre for when you take exams. It would be a total faff to have to travel all the time for this.

Definitely do it though, it changed my life.

You need to send them copies of payslips and proof of address (a bill in your name) at the very least so it would be very difficult. I'm doing Design and Innovation with the OU (currently procrastinating on MN) and had to give them all those documents to qualify for funding. I'm in Scotland though so it may be different. You don't want to know how much I'm paying for my degree .

Yeah I have totally moved away from this moment of complete madness now. I just have to accept that I now live in England lol!

How are you all finding the OU?
