Masters in Occupational Psychology

I work in HR and am level 7 CIPD qualified. I fancy doing some further training and/or qualifications and one possibility is a masters in Occupational Psychology. Just wondering if anyone has done one of these, where, and whether it's been useful?

You might be better off getting this moved to Higher Education.

Without a psychology degree you wouldn't be an 'occupational psychologist' upon finishing. For that you need a conversion course first to turn your existing quals into psychology ones. So you can do the masters but you'll finish with an msc in organisational behaviour most likely.

If you have a lot of hr experience and the cipd level knowledge and your ultimate aim isn't to become an occupational psychologist then my advice would be do top up training in the areas you want from the 8 areas covered by occ psych masters. You can find these on the bps website.

Thanks Boobs. Have only just noticed your response so apologies for not replying before now. I do actually have a Psychology degree; but my aim in doing the masters would be to enhance my HR career (and because I fancy studying again) rather than becoming an Occupational Psychologist. Have you done a masters course?

Yes I have done an msc and teach on a course. I'd say do it then as you have the chartered route open to you as long as your undergraduate degree was bps accredited and the msc you choose is likewise.

The chartered thing is quite important because if you ever did decide to go for an OP role then most places require chartership, and it also increases your earning potential.

Birkbeck might be a good place for you as you've got work experience. Other good courses are Sheffield, Nottingham, goldsmiths and city.
