Hi, I was hoping for some advice from experienced academics, I am tempted by a p/t research assistantship role I've seen that is in a related field to the one I work in. I currently work within a voluntary sector. I have an MA in Sociology (15 years ago), a post graduate diploma in an allied health profession (12 years ago) and have done a PG Certificate 4 years ago, and I just don't know if I'll be considered as a suitable candidate due to my lack of connection with anything university/degree like since? My original degree was a 2.1 but my last two have been pass only, no distinctions, and I did find the certificate tough to focus as I was doing it while working. Is this too big a leap to expect to cope in the world of academia? I currently work in a role that involves writing of funding applications/reports etc. but obviously nothing like writing up research. I've always wanted to do something like this but scared I just don't have the ability. Are these types of roles only for people who are just finishing or finished degrees and not been out of it for a while?
