Hi all. I am a parent to a 22 yr old daughter and 17 yr old son. I have been a single parent for the past 11 years. I work as a nurse and have been in the same job for 10 years. Initially it suited me as the job hours were great for when the kids were young. I now feel I am becoming de- skilled and that it is time to move on. I have the opportunity to take up a promotional post but it is 100 miles away. Neither of my children want to come with me- I have asked... But I want the job...I feel torn as my son is not happy at me going. My parents live close by as does my sisters his gran. His father lives away too- he does not want to go and live with him either. I could go and continue to pay for the house here, his food etc... He is no longer in school and is working part time...He thinks I should stay here until he is about 20 yrs old..his sister also will remain in the family home if I go. I am totally torn...any other mums been in a similar situation? Tips etc would be great...Thank you in advance.

Presume you would come home at weekends? And holidays, of course? How do they feel about that?
Or they could they spend some weekends or time off with you.
100 miles isn't that far, really, two hours' drive or thereabouts.

Um, wouldn't this be better posted elsewhere? In the general Work section. This is a section for university workers.
