I hate the elves. My two kids LOVE them. I don’t know why but they are seriously obsessed, think this is the last year for the eldest but he genuinely believes.

So I thought I’d start a thread for others in the same boat! I run out of ideas by about the 5th so im grateful to all for any good ideas that don’t need an art degree and four hours of spare time!

Elf parents unite! We can do this!

Would also help if I hadn’t lost the damn elves in the house move.

Sorry I don’t know if there’s already an elf support group, I did look but couldn’t see one!

Snow angel in flour on the work surface went down well last year, as did zip lining using a candy cane and some gift wrap ribbon. Also stacking 3 toilet rolls to make a snowman (eyes/ nose/ buttons drawn on) and drawing faces on satsumas.
They also opened one of the doors on my advent calendar and ate my chocolate!

I’m thinking tomorrow they may put Rudolph crumpets in the toaster ready for breakfast and set the table.

Ours used an eyebrow pencil to draw moustaches on all the pictures (drawn on the glass for wipes off), took the DC ages to work out what was different about the photos on the wall.

Chicken eggs in a tray, kids sprinkle them with "magic dust" before bed, swap them for kinder eggs while they're in bed.

We have smart bulbs, one night the elf set them all to red/blue/green/purple (different colour in each room) so that when the DC asked Alexa to turn on their lights they were funny colours.

He got into the Christmas sweets ate a lot of the Celebrations.

He somehow managed to get into a padded envelope and accidentally got taken to the post office, luckily he managed to post himself back home to us but it took the little fucker four days to arrive (it was blissful).

I pinterest the fuck out of it tbh.

I put together about 30-35 easy ideas, including a couple of 'big' stunts, make a list of props I need and plan to nip to the pound shop on my lunch to get those bits. By this stage, dismiss any ideas that require a lot of time, or online ordering of props. Just look for things that you already have the stuff at home for.

They don't need massive effort, some of the best ones DS remembers are the ones that took 30 seconds.

The photo I attached was a big hit I printed it off and did a shoebox with elf, spiders, cockroaches and fake mice left over from halloween along with jelly snakes and chocolate mice.

I did the bedding change a few years back and will do it again this year with all the beds. I had a red sheet under his blue one so just gently peeled off the blue one. Then had the elf duvet cover and pillowcase on a spare set and just swapped them over. This year his old double will go on our bed and he's got a new single one for his new bunk beds.

Heres' a few cheap and easy ones:

  • Elf drew makeup on Granny while she was asleep. Shocked, gleeful horror at that one when granny got up the next morning 'oblivious'. Grin
  • Elf put underpants all over the christmas tree.
  • Elf pooed a chocolate kiss into a glass.
  • Elf clingfilmed DS's shoes.
  • Elf caught galloping around on a dinosaur.

-Elf gift-wrapped DS's uniform.
-Elf put googly eyes on all the family photos.
-Elf had a snowball fight (marshmallows & icing sugar) with hulk and spiderman.
-Elf did sugar snow angels.

Elf sitting surround by crumbs of dog biscuits with a note say "don't leave these cookies for Santa they are disgusting!"

Draw a moustache on each dc while they're asleep using an eye liner pencil so when they wake up and look at each other/in the mirror they'll laugh at naughty elf who is innocently holding the eyeliner pencil.

Prop a biggish toy car up and place elf underneath as though he's fixing it place tools at the side of him.

Line shoes up on the floor in a train, put elf in the first shoe and other toys/teddies in the other shoes.

Get a pair of dc underwear and attach strings either side, add something at the other end to make a parachute (hankie/bra, tea towel etc). Place elf into pants and hang off the curtain rail so it looks like he jumped off and got stuck.

Hope these ideas help, it's just some of the things I done for my dc.

signing in, as getting ready for my fourth year on elf duty (how did it come to this)
yeah he's that have been a big hit in the past have been:
zip lining from the christmas tree
using a face mask as a hammock on the christmas tree
putting DD's pants all over the christmas tree (cheeky elf)
bouncing down the stairs inside a toilet roll
Elf Strictly - where the elf was wearing a Barbie gown and judging two of the LOL dolls on their dancing
elf being tied up by the LOL dolls
before escaping the next morning in the Barbie car and running them over
covering the LOL house in fake snow/glitter and then sitting in one of the pools (but don't do this cos it's a real bugger to clean up)
elf was in the fridge one night last year with an ice cream squishy
then then next morning was in the toaster to warm herself up (make sure toaster unplugged Grin)
elf has frequently also been found face down in a tub of quality street with wrappers strewn about the room

elf has also written "3 sleeps till christmas" (or however many there are) in lipstick on a mirror, after having put some of the lipstick on herself

I don’t do mess, anything that needs me cleaning is an instant no. Dec 1st is always elves just bringing the calendars. The rest of the time it’s just the elves doing silly things, trying to escape the house, eating popcorn while watching movies. Putting nappies on each other, racing toy cars, wrapping each other in tinsel, gluing little Pom poms on as earrings, trying to eat the Aldi carrot family, hiding in the snack draw, making a giant conga line with other toys….

This, basically. No naughty elves are allowed in here. And it would be a terrible example for Santa's minions to set so Close to Christmas.

This is the first year we've had one, mainly due to DS1 loving the program on Netflix, and me being an over indulgent knobhead.

It's bringing advent calendars, santa letter writing kit, elf pj's, Christmas books etc over the course of the month.

Some great ideas!

I really need to find the elf and the advent calendars as they are hidden away. Tomorrow they are all meant to appear under the tree

So it turns out we LOST THE ELVES in the house love, discovered by me at 6pm on 30/11. So we now have great uncle noel elf (Lidl, £5, had to leave the kids in the car and dash in to get it like STEALTHY but not really). He wrote kids a note saying original elves are in c19 quarantine. Phew!

So far we’ve done: opening calendar and eating a day’s chocolate, eating a couple of mini magnums and sprinkling the box and wrappers on the floor, sitting on a egg box with egg shells sitting around and two of the egg slots in the box filled with mini chocolate santas, and getting into dd’s dolls bed to read ‘the elves and the shoemaker’. The last one was a very last minute idea but the kids LOVED it.

None of them very exciting but still posting so that if anyone like me finds it quite panic inducing they can read!

Put Elf upside down in food blender. Smear tomato ketchup around. Say Krampus did it

We have the Hide and Seek elf. I just have to hide him around the house. So far he's been found in the fridge, the biscuit tin, the tree, the front door wreath as they get home from school and last night he got into DDs bed overnight.

elf has arrived, and promptly did a lateral flow test - it was negative so she can stay
as I'm working mainly from home she set up my laptop one morning and was sitting at it, with a note saying after watching me she was going to do my work (sadly she didn't)
as punishment for that she's now been chained to the bannister on the stairs with DDs bike lock GrinGrinGrin

I love the elf!! 😳
Thursday night I did spaceman with suit of tin foil but forgot to take a pic but here is screenshot of my inspiration 🤣.
Friday night I did elf cafe with frying pan made of tin foil (there is a theme!!) and a gummy egg. Hat made of kitchen roll. Partner has hidden elf in the lamp shade tonight...

For some reason I decided to buy a second elf the other day. It's supposed to be a girl but looks exactly like the boy one. I've just spent 20 mins making it a dress
