Dd is 12 and asking to shave her legs, I'm sure I was around 14 when I started to shave...just after opinions

I wouldn't think it was any of my business really, and would leave it entirely up to them, but would hope to have a conversation with them about why they wanted to and society's expectations etc.

My daughter is 12 and asked to over the summer so I bought her what she needed, showed her how to do it and left her to it. I did say that once you start, you probably won’t stop and it’s a bit of a pain! She’s decided not to bother over the winter.

Why does she have to ask?

I can't remember what age I was, and I don't have a DD, but if yours wants to I think at the age of 12 you should let her.

Oh god no! I felt uncomfortable asking so I slit my legs with a dull razer I found in my sisters room. Get her the stuff and make her feel easy!

Whenever they want to? If they’re self conscious about it and perhaps their school peers are all doing it then why would you say no? My dd is 13 and I’ve recently noticed her armpit hair has disappeared (I’m surprised she left it as long as she did).

I can't remember tbh!
But if she's asking just let her

@Hen2018

Why does she have to ask?

Because she is 12 years old and it would be the first time Hmm

Her legs her choice. Bodily autonomy and all that

Mine was 12 when she started.

She shouldn’t have to ask permission. Buy her an electric shaver so she can’t cut herself or Veet.

She has asked at 11. I’ve shown her how to do it, helped her and she’s left it for now, but knows she can ask anytime.

My Dd was about 12, she asked and I wasn’t sure really, I was shocked really so had a chat and I thought we’d agreed she leave until the spring (I mean, who shaved legs during the winter?Grin) A week later she actullay shaved them herself and ended up cutting herself, so wished I’d just shown her properly and let her do it!

My child didn't ask me. Bought what she needed and just got on with it. Probably about 12 years old.

If she’s asking, show her how to safely then let her get on with it. At 12 totally fine, I think my DD was 11. If she’d been much younger 9/10 I’d have probably suggested a lady shave first.

Thanks for the helpful replies.

To the others, she has just turned 12 years old, still a child, of course she will ask!

It never occurred to me to ask permission.

I started shaving my legs when I was about 12.

It should be a case of 'letting' her shave her legs. Her hair, her choice. Talk to her about the different methods of hair removal and give her the choice.

12 is plenty old enough. Depends how hairy they are and how much your child is bothered by the hair. Shouldn't be judged on age only

Ignore PP.
My eldest always wanted hers waxed so I started taking her when she was 12. My youngest (also at the age of 12) got very upset and didn't like how she looked and wanted to shave. I bought her some nice razors and showed her how to do it- I now let her get on with it and she lets me know if she needs a new razor. She tends to only shave in the summer when she's in shorts.

I'm pleased they both felt comfortable talking to me so I could help them decide which was the best way forward for each of them.

My DD was 12, but she started waxing rather than shaving.

Dd likes the olay blades with the soap bars. Still uses a bit of shower gel too

I started shaving mine at 11. I just took one of my Dad’s razors and started using it.

I've got boys but my sin wanted to trim his underarm hair from 12 as he felt sweaty and I said yes and was glad he asked.
