Escaped dogs have just killed my neighbours cat

Bit outing but I am so shaken up and feel physically sick.

Just witnessed the most horrific thing I have ever seen.

My dog started barking really badly, 2 dogs outside barking.

Eventually after a few mins I look out the window and there is horrific screaming.

2 escaped dogs attacking my neighbours cat. They killed it :(

I am shaking. It’s the most traumatic thing I have ever seen. Police uselsss.

Nobody knows where these dogs came from.

I don’t think I’ll ever let my dog off the lead again :(

There is no doubt in my mind these dogs would've killed a child.

You say the police were useless, did they attend? I'm assuming the dogs had gone?

A brave lady who was out walking her dog managed to grab one of the dogs (I took her dog) and then another man grabbed the other one.

Police eventually came and refused to handle the dogs, fair enough as they were terrifying. The dogs had contact details on their collars so I understand the owners were contacted.

Oh god you poor thing. The poor cats death would have probably have been quicker than you think. That is just horrible. Big hugs to you

Thank you. Seeing the cat and the screams from my neighbour was the most hideous thing ever.

I'm scared to take my tiny terrier for a walk now.

Dog warden deals with this not the police.

Please put in a complaint to the dog warden.

Happened to our DCat, fortunately was a lurcher type dog so it was a shake. We're still heartbroken and the noise of our cat and the dog will be with us forever.

He was a cat in a million, had a lot of cats in the family for years and he is still missed by us all daily Sad

There is no doubt in my mind these dogs would've killed a child. I'm sorry that you witnessed this but let me reassure you. A dog that kills a cat does not equate to a dog that kills a child, anymore than a cat that kills a mouse equates to a cat that attacks a child. Nature is brutal.

Do you have someone with you?

As a cat owner this would truly be my worst nightmare HmmSad

I'm so sorry OP that's awful for you to have witnessed.

Only advice I can give is call the dog warden and they will come collect the dogs.

Poor pussy cat! 😔

Sadly that's what dogs do. Cats do it too. Animals chase, catch and kill other animals. Even horses bite, kick and sometimes try to kill other horses.

So do people.

Sound awful 😞

when I was a teen some distant neighbours called round with their dogs and was chatting to my mum at the front door which the dogs randomly went beserk and attacked our beautiful docile cat who was minding her own business. We got them off quickly but she developed a huge haematoma, went downhill and died within a few days despite being in perfect health before. So upsetting Sad

Horrible to see. Cats do alot of killing as well. Our cat used to bring home dead bodies all the time. I don't think the police would see a dead cat as a police matter though.

Cats kill too. An outdoor cat kills birds and small animals.

Yes all very good points about nature etc, that's made me feel better. I know it's not about me of course but fuck me the screaming from my neighbour was horrifying.

It was another woman that called the police, I don't think anyone could think quick enough to call the dog warden.

I don't think it's right 2x escaped dogs are running around thou.

What a terrible shame

That's so upsetting. Disappointed that the police didn't contact the owners.

Of course it’s not right, but dogs on the loose is happens very rarely.

Cats are roaming and killing all the time.,

I think what has totally freaked me out is if my little dog got out it could've been him killed.

But he didn't and I am acutely aware of dog etiquette but this totally reinforced the importance.

Thanks all for the replies.

My poor DS (8) hid under his covers as the noise was so bad outside.

There is a legal obligation for dogs to be kept under control that doesn't exist for cats for a reason.

I write this as a cat and dog owner.

Yeah dogs can and do kill children and adults something no domestic cat has probably ever achieved in recent decades - perhaps years back cats cuddled up with newborns that then overheat, not a deliberate action by the cat.

Cats might kill too but I think a cat being attacked and killed by two dogs is pretty traumatic for anyone to witness. Poor thing. I hope you're okay op I'd be really upset too

This, people conveniently ignore that pretty much every cat is a small ecological disaster and brutal killing machine.

Sorry, but surely it’s just as traumatic fur rye birds and small animals killed by the cats.

Or are they less worthy?

Report
lynntheyresexpeople · 18/09/2021 23:52

Crikey - no it's not the bloody same. The cat was someone's beloved pet.
Yes it's very sad that cats kill things but come on. It's not the same, you know it isn't. Stop being goady for no reason.

I'm sorry you witnessed this op. I have a ragdoll cat for the very reason they aren't allowed to be outside. This would be my worst nightmare 💔
