EssexLioness · 29/08/2021 01:40

Welcome everyone, this is a thread for all of those that would like to support each other in the lead up to Christmas, in our efforts to reduce our waists. All those that suspect or are going through perimenopause are welcome.
I have tagged everyone from our August thread: this thread is for September onwards, so we can continue using the old thread in the meantime. @Katekarate @ginsparkles @CakeandGo @badpuma @HelpMeTree @RoseAddict @SailorGeri @Bambooshoot @LlamaofDrama @GreySweater @MrsDThomas @shallwegoforawalk @torquewench @foxandbee @HoliHormonalTigerLilly @pastaparadise @theghostofchristmasarse @CharmingScene @Rupeertpenrysmistress @katplva @OverbyYer @dudsville @isthismylifenow @boon @ThatsAllFolks @AliciaMayEmory @Cornishbelle @Purplepeopleeaterz @Eggmcmuffin @MinnieMountain @AttaGirrrrl @TheRealKateAdie @Badgerstmary @Jackieweaverishere @pinkcattydude @EarringsandLipstick @VivaDixie @AliciaMayEmory @JMAngell @GarethBatesManBun @polkadotpjs @HappyHedgehog247 @Tiggles @Leftbutcameback @Itwasgoodwhileitlasted @Timeforredwine

Count me in, I have a double whammy of perimenopause and hypothyroidism. Losing any weight is an all mighty struggle 😭

Thanks @EssexLioness.

I really need to make a proper go of this. It should be easier once DS is back at school.

Off for a swim shortly.

Hi everyone, glad you all found the new thread.
@MinnieMountain enjoy your swim. I’m sure you will find it easier to focus once DS starts back at school.
Welcome @Begonias and @Canyrdogdothepussy welcome! That sounds so tough, I find it hard enough just re menopause symptoms, let alone thyroid problems on top!

Would love to join please. Sorry if already mentioned in a previous thread, but are there any good resources for this peri-menopausal weight gain situation? Anything in particular that helps that's different to the normal advice?

Hello, can I join in? I'm not sure about peri-menopause yet but my 30s are behind me and my body is certainly more resistant at decluttering a few lbs/ inches than it once was!
I'm starting on the 6th when the term starts and I'm not constantly surrounded by ravenous twig children asking for second lunch Grin

Would love to join too! I meet the criteria, have put on a stone over the last year which is barely shifting no matter how little I eat and how much I exercise and GP has just agreed to prescribe me oestrogel & utrogestan based on my symptoms (I requested that combo - she wanted me to have the Mirena coil). Not expecting miracles but god it would be amazing to get my mojo back and feel (and look) more like me again.

Ah so many newbies! 😊 welcome aboard everyone!

@Ella15 I started on that combo 3 weeks ago and it has changed my life so much! Feel so much better and most of my symptoms have cleared up/ reduced significantly, most noticeably my brain fog, moods, full body aches and pains and energy levels. I started noticing a difference within 5 days

@EssexLioness oh wow that's really good to hear!! I was reading up on some of the side effects yesterday and bracing myself (headaches & mood swings mostly). But have read so much good too and it is meant to be the gold standard combo. A friend of mine entered menopause at 40 and in the lead up had the weight gain, low mood, sleeplessness, brain fog and all the other joys of peri and she's genuinely now the happiest, most energetic, focused person I know - she convinced me I needed it. So if I can have a bit of that and what you're experiencing then I'll be very happy indeed. Thanks for the lovely welcome Smile. Now if I can just park the pringles, chocolate & rose on a weekend as a treat for getting through the week my waist might think about making a reappearance...

@Ella15, yes I asked for this combo after a lot of research. Great news about your friend. I am still waiting for the sleeplessness to resolve itself 😴 and do my waist to reappear but everything else has worked brilliantly for me. Touch wood I haven’t experienced any side effects apart from really sensitive/ sore breast for the first couple of weeks. Hope it works well for you too, let us know how you get on 😊

Thanks. Only thing I've managed to do since my first post is hurt my back Sad So not manages any proper exercise. Waiting on a physio appointment next week.

I've tried really hard to cut out biscuits/ cake/ chocs etc and only slipped up a few times, but now eating more carbs and cheese which I don't think will be helping. Will do my measurements tmrw and stop avoiding...

After a week away I gained 3lbs and now we’ve got cake and so much food I’m taking it easy until DS goes back to school. DH and I tidied the garage and I’m getting a multigym so excited I don’t know where this person that enjoys exercise came from but I’m going with it.

Would love to join in.

Had bloods taken last week as doc just wanted to check my thyroid function before discussing hrt, so am hopeful I will be on the right track soon.

Brain fog, bad memory, mood swings and weight I cannot shift are just a few of the lovely symptoms!

I am also doing exams through work, so struggling with brain fog and a severe lack of time to dedicate to exercise!

Sorry to hear about your back @pastaparadise. Hope physio helps. It’s hard to avoid comfort foods when you’re in pain, and I’m guessing a bit fed up at mo. Be kind to yourself, I’m sure you will get there!

@pinkcattydude well done on weighing and staying accountable. Multigym sounds really exciting. Yes I heard hrt can take a few months to feel the full effect.

Welcome @tigger1001. That sounds really difficult. I couldn’t imagine having to study or do exams during the worst of my brain fog!

You’re welcome @Katekarate, I hope you are managing to find a little time for yourself this weekend and work isn’t taking over completely.

I stayed on plan food wise and had a little walk and did some gardening today so fairly good day. I am trying really hard to stay focused as I go away for a few days on Friday so want to try and lose a bit before then. Bit of a challenge though cos my brain has decided to get itself into holiday mode early!
While I am away I plan on staying mostly on track but will relax a little. I am going to the Yorkshire dales and plan on doing quite a lot of walking so hopefully it eill all balance out
