What are the most coveted lunch boxes for 6 year old girls?

I’m looking for a lunchbox and water bottle for a 6 year old . I know Smiggle is a big thing for this age group but I’ve no idea which are deemed ‘the’ ones to have. It’s for a relatives birthday. I’ve heard her saying some of her classmates have ones from Smiggle (said in a way that makes me think she would love on from there). Can anyone recommend any Smiggle or indeed non-smiggle ones that are really popular?

Based on the girls at DDs school, anything pink, glittery with unicorns or LOL dolls, bonus points for the sequins that can be switched to different colours by running your hand over them.

But, if the little girl you're buying for isn't a pink and stereotypically girly girl that won't help 😂

Whoa they sound grim . She’s an animal lover. Are Smiggle ones highly prized? We don’t have a branch here so I’d have to order online . They’re so ££££££

Fuck me! Just looked at smiggle £18-£30 for a lunchbox!! That's highway robbery, DD has always been very happy with supermarket offerings.

I would go for something more practical than Smiggle. Look for a rubbish-free, Bento-style box. One that allows for food like popcorn, dried fruit or crisps to be included in a lunch without the need for needless single use plastics.
I'm not in the UK but I like Nude Food lunchboxes. Not sure if you have those over there. Really though, we should be making plastic free the norm.

My DD (6 nearly 7) has chosen this one from Smiggle - bought a couple of weeks ago. She's quite girly, but loves animals too.
She had a Smiggle one 4 years ago & its still going strong, but she needed one with straps.

M&S have a nice range - my DD loves her galaxy (as in space) one from there, and I’ve just looked and they’ve started stocking smiggle ones too which seems a bit random but could be worth a look (though agree they’re expensive!)

I'd go for a plain Sistema sectioned lunchbox (bento style, comes with waterbottle), then buy a more exciting chilly bag for it to go in.

Could you not give a smiggle voucher for her to go and pick her own? My dcs love being given money for them to go and buy their own thing. Vouchers really aren’t a cop out

This is the sistema box we have - its great! Then maybe a chilly bag with a cute character on.

No way would I buy Smiggle - daylight robbery.

Thank you all. That one looks just the sort of thing I reckon she would like APurpleSquirrel
I will take a look at M&S too.

No one above year 4 at DC's school has a smuggle lunchbox. Sooo embarrassing, apparently! DC has one with an anime theme which her dad bought her. Also had success with paper chase in the past.

Thanks NorthernDramaLlama . Are Smiggle still cool in year 2

My DD (going into year 4 in sept) says smiggle is still cool in her school, if that helps! (Though that might be just cos I haven’t bought her anything from there Grin so she still covets it!)

My 7 yo has a Smiggle one. It was £12 in sale I think, 2 compartments, very pretty with sequins etc! She has the matching backpack too. We use little paperchase boxes inside for food. Plenty of room for those and an ice pack.

I don't rate Smiggle water bottles but other bags etc have been good quality so I don't mind forking out. Dd has been quite nervous about starting y3 and hasn't had new school stuff for a while.

Smiggle very popular in y2 here (they're the year group I work with). Also see a lot of bento boxes with little compartments, they all seem to love these!

My advice would be to get a unique keyring or something to put on it, as if it's going to be the same as multiple others in the class she'll need a way to identify it quickly.

There's a discount for first orders on Smiggle and they have bundles so I'm going to go for something from there. Sounds their stuff still cuts the mustard among 6 year olds.

Sorry, I read Year 6, not 6 years. My apologies. Smiggle was the 'go to' at that age. Avoid the silicon water bottles, though. Nightmare to clean and they start to smell / make the water taste funny.

That's good to know about water bottles NorthernDramaLlama. And good idea to have keyring UndeadSlut. I'll look at the bento boxes as well

Are you her auntie? I’ve got two girls and their auntie used to get them fantastic presents when they were little - Disney shop lunch boxes with matching drink bottles, cool swimming costumes with matching towels. Things they would use, but far nicer than we’d buy them.

She won’t forget her cool Smiggle lunchbox. Blimey though, they certainly know how to charge!

Definitely Smiggle for a 6 year old, DD is going into Y4 and its our first non-Smiggle year, another milestone passed! 😪

SunbathingDragon · 15/08/2021 19:36

Popular Smiggle one that DD pleaded for is the roll drink one (don’t make my mistake and put the clip in the dishwasher as it won’t come out the same colour).

My DD just has one similar to this - as do most of the kids in her class.

Dinosaur ones are popular. I bought lunch box, water bottle and rucksack for a little girl and she adores them. Mind you, she is dinosaur mad. That won't last forever but then neither will the goods.

Last school year, a few of the kids had Smiggle. I think the Double Smiggle ones are good for the amount you can get in them, however they are also large to put into a backpack.
This was Year 2 (so 6 turning 7). The majority of the class have hot dinners though as they're still on universal free dinners.

Yes I’m her auntie UnitedRoad. I’m off to have a good hunt around on Smiggle now bearing in mind all the ones recommended on here. Thanks so much everyone.
