Liz Jones' ex husband, Nirwal Dhaliwal, writes excoriating account of marriage to Liz Jones

Liz Jones's ex wrote a pulverising article about their marriage yesterday.

I couldn't blame him really, as she writes about him nearly every week in really dismissive terms, and there are always 2 sides to a story.
She always describes lavishing him with expensive gifts and how rotten, lazy and ungrateful he was, but he actually walked away with no money at all - to his credit as at that time she was very well paid.

He writes: `My ex is the newspaper columnist Liz Jones who, during our time together, turned her one-sided take on our relationship into a lucrative industry, churning out thousands of articles. I still appear in her work now, despite not speaking to her in 12 years.
`I came to live in a gilded Islington cage, lavished with unrequested gifts, and holidays as Liz spent some of the fortune she made from writing about me – mostly derisively – no doubt in the hope that I wouldn’t leave.
Our marriage was doomed from our wedding day: an occasion I felt swindled into, having never proposed. She arranged it without my knowledge; I found out when I discovered a receipt for the country estate. Confronted with it, she declared she’d already told the world in her column – which I no longer read – and would look a fool. She then broke down in tears, robbing me of my anger as I comforted her and agreed.
Having been depicted as little more than a gigolo, I forwent a small fortune that would have given me stability, and have lived a financially precarious life since. Naively, I had hoped she would stop pouring scorn on me in print, but she has continued to do so, banking cheque after cheque in the process.

Her writing, of course, never gave any sense of my vulnerability. The working-class product of an immigrant home wracked by alcoholism, violence and insolvency, I was, in my 20s, always going to fall under the spell of a wealthy older woman who promised me a lifestyle and security that I’d never imagined for myself'.

Just goes to show that there are always 2 sides to every story, and while Jones always portrays herself as a victim, the truth is more nuanced.

She sounds even more barmy than I thought.

The men Liz Jones writes about are real?shock

FreshFreesias Sun 01-Aug-21 20:08:40

I have met her; she is the most self-absorbed woman I have ever met, so heaven knows what it was like being married to her.

Well, she can't complain if he starts making money writing about her. She doesn't seem to have been happy with any of the men in her life or any part of her life in general really so, it seems, she is the common denominator of her own misfortune.

FreshFreesias Sun 01-Aug-21 20:21:01

I agree, given how much she's written about him, she can hardly complain.

Could anyone unlock the article from the paywall please? Gagging to read it. Remembering her articles at the time I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Clearly not her intent from the way she depicted him.

Good for him. She was so awful about him I actually didn’t think he existed other than in her horrid little head

I can’t imagine, whatever the truth, that either of them had many happy moments in their marriage.

GetTaeFuck Sun 01-Aug-21 20:33:31

I remember reading her when she was married to her and thinking she was a massive twat - I was a teenager, my mother disagreed with me.

Who the fuck books and arranges a whole wedding behind their partners back shock

Remember seeing a photo shoot with them both at home years ago. He looked shy and quite unhappy.

Not the first time he's written about her. Different story last time.
Why I Only Date Older Women by Nirpal Dhaliwal, Telegraph 2019
"When I was 26 I embarked on a torrid affair with a 42-year-old fashion magazine editor that would result in marriage and the most significant relationship of my life.
Prior to that, I had liaised often with older women, a proclivity that began when I was aged just 20 with a Jamaican divorcee who ... relished my vigour, incessant tumescence and eagerness to please.
I loved being the plaything of older women - all of them possessing extraordinary bodies and also “focused on themselves” – in the most thrilling way. ... I became something like a protege, receiving a splendid education from each.
I loved savouring sybaritic weekends cocooned in their beautiful homes or on high-class holidays. My ex-wife and I fell in love on while staying at GoldenEye, Ian Fleming’s Caribbean estate. No twenty-five-year-old could’ve provided me such experiences.
I’m now 44 and over the past decade my relationships have been with women of my generation, but older women are as attractive to me as they ever were.."

@GetTaeFuck Agree. Very controlling.

I can't read that article as it's paywalled, but what a shameless, entitled arsehole he sounds like. Why is it "to his credit" that he left without any of HER money? Didn't he cheat on her? They didn't have children so he's not entitled to her hard-earned cash either way. If he's still "financially precarious" twelve years later, he's clearly not up to much. LJ is also from a poor working-class background, after all.

Niceicebaby Sun 01-Aug-21 20:39:29

Hindsight can shed a light on a abusive relationship. He was very much thevwraker party.

frumpety Sun 01-Aug-21 20:40:01

I used to read her column and want to rescue her from herself. I couldn't because I have shit candles and my bedding is mainly polycotton.

Exactly! He's not the victim he claims to be. And he can't really complain that LJ writes about him if he's spent lockdown "writing a novel about a disintegrating marriage between an Indian man and his glamorous English wife" and is now using her name to promote it.

alexdgr8 Sun 01-Aug-21 20:43:00

she seems money obsessed, always talking about how much things cost, and people not being grateful enough for gifts etc.
she seems to have annoyed people wherever she goes.
i may be wrong but i seem to recall some years ago, she took her elderly mother out of a care home ?for xmas, and was annoyed that the expensive rich diet caused mother a tummy upset, and that mother didn't appreciate how much time and other exciting events LJ had given up, to sacrifice herself for mother. !
she basically dragged her mother around, to stay in unsuitable accomm, with no care support, and then made her ill by rich food.
she had no real interest or insight into her mother's condition. felt she ought to have enjoyed the meal because it was so expensive; as if the poor lady had been ill on purpose.
she presents herself as the victim in every scenario, and seems utterly self-centred, so much so i did wonder if her pieces were a pastiche.
how could anyone be so un-self aware.

OverByYer Sun 01-Aug-21 20:45:09

He is 47 now and he has actually written articles and a book about it before
Maybe he needs something new to write about?
