I'm so sick of the rags that pass for 'journalism' in this country. It's actually embarrassing.

That's disgusting.

To be fair, the Spectator produces some excellent journalism. I am looking forward to reading the piece. Tax evasion ain’t cool!

Have they done any pieces on the dodgy contracts the Tories awarded their donors during the pandemic? Companies with no assets and no experience being awarded millions of pounds worth of contracts?

Bastards!

I am huge fan of Marcus Rashford it was because of him that my child benefited from School vouchers.

From the background he has come from he really is an inspiration to kids also so is his mum. As society still writes of single parents and their kids.

He has earned his money playing football he didn’t need to do anything else for anyone but he done more than this privilege corrupt robbing government.

Imagine achieving all that he has and still only being in 20’s.

We've got a very biased press. He showed the government up and then racist England fans showed themselves up so the government press want to try and get the public against Marcus to try and save some face.

They don't care about being obvious because they think everyone is thick.

Yes to racists - if had my way they never be allowed to attend or watch football again,

I’m not into football but do watch England games and I honestly expected the public reaction (if you old as me) to those three young lads to be same as when Gazza sob his heart after England game.

The whole nation was behind him

Every other athlete gets to benefit from corporate sponsorship and networking but Rashford doesn't? Come off it. They have short careers!!

I will never understand this country's obsession with hagiography.

Why not wait until the article comes out before judging its merits?

He really has stirred the pot hasn't he. Good on him, we need more like and less like the current Cabinet.

I don't know what this piece is about although I did hear Rushford denying an accusation that had been made. Regardless of good work he's done, if he's done wrong, he's done wrong. If he hasn't, he hasn't. Doesn't matter what others have done, this is about him. I'm hoping he's proved to be right and another one doesn't bite the dust. I still haven't forgiven Gary Barlow for his shonky dealings.

More likely rattled putting those who could or who job it is to to shame.

He didn’t just jump on bandwagon which am sick on those with high status - celebrities do and tell us minions how to give to poor whilst in next breath posting selfie from their private island he actually helped drive the train.

It’s the same with JK Rowling, Jack Monroe in fact anyone that actually walks the talk and does it without expecting to be herald like some god the media will build them up just so they can tear them down.

There was lots unsung hero’s during lockdown ensuring children had food during lockdown and holidays and still are the same with laptop situation not surprising that they prefer to be out public eye as always someone to tear you down

I knew there would be a media hatchet job on him soon. There’s no surprise there. I just assumed it would be from the Daily Mail.

Yeh this is what they should write about. Not the tech companies paying fuck all tax and making huge profits while exploiting workers, or the known money laundering going on in the London luxury property market, let’s bring Marcus down a peg or two, we hate a tall poppy in this country.

EvilPea · 21/07/2021 07:30

They tried before when he bought some buy to let properties.
Something millions have done as a business or property investment.

They are right. A lot of people are extremely thick.

This is a sign of how polarised the UK has become.

It feels like the country is more split into Left and Right than it has been in my lifetime, and people feel obligated to support anything their 'side' does.

A lot of people on MN support the Spectator because they've been loudly gender critical.

But the Spectator isn't gender critical because they give a shit about women or women's rights, they're GC because they're right wing. Right wing publications hate anyone who is or makes claim to minority status.

Please don't let the press brainwash you into thinking you have to support racism just because the person publication doing it is GC. You can agree with someone on one issue and disagree with them on another.

*@Motnight* You asked where the tax evasion allegations came from.?

From this poster. Have not seen anything concrete at all myself, to justify that statement.

Decide for yourself, why someone would post an unevidenced disparaging comment like that.

And who are these people you refer to that feel obligated?

Rashford seems to have outwitted them by pre-bunking the article. The Spectator is old media and isn't nimble enough to have seen this might happen. People primed for the article therefore taking any supposed wind out of its sails.
