GERMANY - Anyone flown to recently? DS 16 does he have to be vaccinated?

So 16 year old Son will probably be going for sport (his sport is classes as elite so he can fly). Have looked at country entry requirements and it's saying must be vaccinated or negative test and isolation.

Im sure his new club/host family will be able to advise but I wanted a heads up - as he's 16 and travelling on his own will he need a vaccine or can he just produce a negative PCR test and with regards to isolation Im guessing he will isolate with family?

Anyone any advice?

At present if he isn't vaccinated he can't come to Germany UNLESS he is here for essential reasons, repatriating or whatever. The isolation rules are for unvaccinated people who are travelling for an accepted reason. He will need both vaccinations.

First of all make sure you get the latest advice from official channels rather than accepting what anyone tells you here unquestioningly (myself included!). The official rules can change rapidly in response to the Covid situation in both countries. I’ve flown to Germany recently and the rules changed between me booking my flight and actually leaving. There also might be special exemptions governing elite sports.
Having said that, for what it’s worth: I’ve flown to Germany last week. I needed a negative PCR or LFD test to be allowed on the plane (independent of vaccination status). You can’t use a free/NHS one but have to book a paid one via one of the official UK govt approved suppliers. There’s a list somewhere on a gov.uk webpage. I used qured.com who were good. If PCR it has to be not older than 72hrs before entry to Germany, for LFD it’s 48 hours. He’ll get a certificate that he’ll need to upload for both the flight provider and for the DEA form (“Deutsche Einreise-Anmeldung”). He’ll need to fill that in too. There’s an English language option. Then on arrival he’ll need to quarantine for 10 days unless double-jabbed. I think he may have to do further tests as well if isolating but I’m not sure about that as it didn’t apply to me (fully vaccinated). He doesn’t have to go into hotel quarantine but needs to isolate at the same address. If he’s traveling in a sports context additional test might be required but the organisers should be able to advise on that.
I believe VioletWillow’s advice is out of date - that more restrictive regime applied when the UK was effectively classed as “red” by Germany, it was recently changed to Germany’ “amber” equivalent. However it might all change again, so better check closer to his travel dates!

If you can, it’s also helpful to buy some FFP2 standard masks as these are required in Germany. Lloyds pharmacy do them online and those are good quality. I’ve heard mixed reviews on Amazon’s offerings, it seems a lot of the suppliers don’t guarantee you’ll actually get what is shown in the picture and some might be dodgy.

Im trying to get everything in place eg. Where to go for the test, the digital form you mention etc. in readiness for the when we get the green light for him to go. Yes once they find a host he will isolate with them and they will take over with the relevant extra tests etc

He will need confirmation of elite athlete status to be allowed entry

If he has had COVID then a medical certificate confirming that is equivalent to vaccination once in the country.
This may also be enough to release him from quarantine totally, but it seems he can at least get out on day 5 with a negative test.
