Flags out for Euros 2020 ?

Anyone decorated houses/gardens with flags?

I’ve got bunting in the garden for today’s barbecue. Uncovered a huge flag, didn’t know we had it!

Live in a huge new building estate and nobody has flags up at all here. Feel quite patriotic this year after this bloody pandemic!

Anyone else got flags up or opinions on not having them up?

No. I hate both football and flags. And BBQs. 😀

No chance we would have a flag up.

Most of mumsnet wouldn't dare put a flag bunting for the football but would put a birthday one up Hmm.

You do you. I've seen loads today. I don't think it looks tacky.

Yes - our flag is out. We're the only ones around here but we always put one out for the big tournaments so our neighbours must be used to it by now!

Think this might be a class thing and the aspirational mothers of Mumsnet wouldn't be seen dead with flags for something so crass as football. They'd prefer to spend their Sunday criticising names on the baby naming threads.

*lighthearted. Head tilt and tinkly laugh.

Do it, if it makes you happy. You’re not hurting anyone and life’s too short to worry about other people’s opinions.

I used to put flags up for all tournaments. Still a big fan (on the way to the game now, and have travelled home and away as an England fan over the years) but given the way the country has gone since Brexit I don’t put one up anymore,m. It now stands for something that makes me uncomfortable. Which makes me sad, as I never had a concern before. But I don’t have an issue with others doing it for the football at all.

For some reason (as a while British female) I see the England flag as racist. I don’t know why? I just do, it must have been ingrained in me somehwere. My OH is football mad and wanted to COVER the house in flags, but I couldn’t allow it so they are all in the back garden. Lots of bunting and huge flags everywhere! (It does actually look quite good to my surprise!)

We do (well, bunting). But that's a saltire so different connotations I suppose.

No - its common :-)

No because I’m not interested in football and as soon as I buy anything England for DS for example, we lose and that’s that 😂 but I do think it’s awful that an England flag is seen as racist. It’s just a flag, every country has one. There’s be no point flying a Union Jack in this case as each country has a separate team.

It seems racist because racist parties use the national flags (union and at George's) to further their agenda. It should be illegal to use a national flag in party messaging.

It would be nice if we could reclaim at George's flag, we just about did it during euro 96 but then Brexit has come along and that's made anyone with a flag look like an epic tool.

It's not really the best place to ask -MN hates flags and football. Apparently they're a class indicator and flying an England flag makes you racist. 🙄

But I'd do it... our neighbours are having a party later and they've decorated the garden. It's added to the kids excitement. In fact all the kids in our group of houses are our t playing football right now all in various England kits/t shirts and it's fabulous.

I've been nominated for face painting duty later .

It nice to see everyone having fun.

Not from an European country but I always have my flag out for the World Cup. Don’t care what my neighbours think either. Grin

I used to live in a pretty multicultural town and the World Cup before last there were at least 10 different country flags on the estate where we lived, it looked brilliant.

There’s a house near here that has a huge flagpole in their front garden (it is a massive house so it doesn’t look too out of place though). They alternate every week or so between the St George’s Cross and the Saltire - I can’t wait to see what they go with on Friday!

I do if my football crazy DS2 is here but he's away in his uni city watching the match with friends, so I haven't put it up today.
