Is there a clever way to replace a zip slider?

Without replacing the whole zip, or at least undoing some of the stitching?

I bought some things that are meant to clip onto the zip but they're just rubbish & snap when I open them .

Any ideas?

The pull tab type thing or the thing that grips the teeth to close the zip?

The thing that grips the teeth.

The pull tab broke off a couple of weeks ago & using the zip without it is starting to getting annoying.

Ah sorry. I can't think of a way of doing that bit. Bumping for you.

I used a paper clip!

Use some ribbon or similar to create a loop.

Ah, the bit that a paper clip or ribbon would thread through is missing (many repairs), hence the post.

Maybe I'll suck it up and replace it properly at the weekend :)

What brand is the zip?
If you can find one of the same make and size; you can thread the new slider on to the old zip.
You might have to undo a few stitches at the top to allow the old slider off and the new one on.
But that's a lot less sewing than a new zip.

Ifix there are no markings on it. I do however, have an awful lot of zips lurking about so could possibly match the old slider to a new one. Even if it's not the same colour, it doesn't really matter.

Take it to a cobbler. They have magic tools to fix things on zips and aren't usually too pricey.

Go for it.
So the zip up as much as possible. Especially near the top.
Snip the zip fabric so the broken slider comes off. (Both sides)
Test some suitable spares.
Re-stitch.
