I obviously know the background and general issues around the conflict, but what's happening at the moment? I've seen quite a lot of disturbing videos on Twitter Sad

I can never get to the bottom of it, each side tells you it's fault with the other. I just feel very bad for the average people either side trying to get on with life, along with those who booked a holiday because it was on the travel list.

@UncomfortableUnderWire those who booked a holiday?.... not the millions of people dying ?

Quite tone deaf and embarrassing.

Basically Israelis forcing Palestinians out of their homes. Disgusting.

There is no “conflict”, conflict suggests a balance of power. it’s Israel attacking Palestine.

Watching the videos coming from there is horrific.

The Palestinian Arab residents of Sheikh Jerrah, in occupied East Jerusalem, are to be forcibly removed from their homes that they've legally lived in for nearly 70 years, so that they can be given to Israeli 'settlers'.

The UN has repeatedly condemned this occupation, but it goes on.

Israel says it has a legal right to possess the Palestinian homes because they were once owned by Jewish residents.

The Palestinian response(s) have resulted in hardline tactics from the Israeli forces.

Sheikh Jerrah lies just outside the Old City Jerusalem walls, around Mount Scopus and the Mount of Olives Road. The British Consulate for East Jerusalem sits just above the neighbourhood, along with a British Academy funded institute and a beautiful Commonwealth War Graves cemetery containing the burials of many British WW1 soldiers.

This neighbourhood is being ripped apart and the Palestinian objectors have now it seems lost patience with legal process.

The latest battles are raging down in the Old City at the holy Temple Mount which is surmounted by two very holy mosques, al-Aqsa and the Dome of the Rock. This is a contested site - for Jewish people and Muslims alike, with revered Christian places close by. It is controlled by Israel, and has been since 1967.

Israel is currently commemorating the 1967 occupation (after the Six Day War) and so tensions are heightened.

I agree there are alot of videos going viral of settlers taking Palestinian homes and soldiers preventing worshippers from entering the mosque, many injured whilst praying due to rubber bullets, tear gas etc. I guess with social media it's now harder for these atrocities to remain hidden.

They're not really 'settlers' though, which implies pioneers settling uninhabited lands.

These are orchestrated political actions to benefit a section of the Israeli population who themselves aren't wildly popular in Tel Aviv but who Bibi thinks should be accommodated. Literally in Palestinian homes.

Its so unbelievably sad. Feel very sorry for the Palestinians.

The same thing that's been going on for several years. Tim Minchin wrote them a peace song.

I guess it didn't help.

There’s material on aljazeera and loads on Middleeasteye net about it. Including concerns about similar evictions in other areas.

Seeing the fear on the children's faces, some of them tots in nappies, and the look of abject terror on their parents faces as they try to shield them from what's going on and get them to safety is horrendous.

Those poor poor people. I cannot imagine having to try and get toddler DS out of that situation, not grabbing a single possession, running for your lives. What the fuck is wrong with the world. I despair, I really do.

Basically during Ramadan prayers on the temple Mount the palastinians throw rocks at the people worshipping at the western Wall below.

Israel effectively took the nuclear option and fired rubber bullets to control the crowd. Hurting a lot of women and children in the process.

The palastinians then had a protest and the same thing happened - rocks and rubber bullets.

So now the palastinians are sending hundreds of rockets into Israel and Israel is marching on gaza and the west Bank. No idea which came first and I don't think they do either.

That's effectively it in a nutshell

Tensions have escalated in Jerusalem, the occupied West Bank and Gaza throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, amid growing anger about potential forced expulsions of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah, on land claimed by Israeli settlers.

At least 90 Palestinians were wounded on Saturday during an Israeli police crackdown on protesters outside the Old City of Jerusalem, while another 200 Palestinians were injured on Friday when Israeli forces stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

There's really disturbing images on social media right now with dead babies being held by desperate parents trying to get medical aid. It's absolutely disgusting and the media isn't giving enough coverage to show this.
