We have been robbed, my teen boys were in the house..

I feel so shaky. I took my girls to an art club and my teen boys were in the house.
Thankfully my boys were not harmed or injured. The robbers forced their way in. We live in a detached property in a rural area. They took all my jewellery.
I feel sick- they were probably watching the house.

That is awful. I'm so sorry to read this. You must all be so shaken up.

How awful. You must be very shocked. I hope you have cctv and it’s so fortunate no one was hurt. I don’t know what to say- I’d be absolutely sick too. I hope the police are coming.

I'm so sorry, OP. That's awful.

Very frightening to think that your teenagers were in the house, but the main thing is that they are ok. You're probably in shock, and I imagine that they are pretty freaked out too.

Have you called the police? I hope that they have been helpful.

Did the teenagers know what was happening or were they in another room or something?

It happened yesterday at 11am. The boys were studying all night for their A'levels so I let them sleep in. I left at 10am. The police were really helpful and came quickly because they were concerned about the boys. I feel so tearful and in shock. Im not showing anything because of my little girls but inside I am so sad and feel so violated. They didnt take macbooks, ipads or anything. Made a beeline for the jewellery which was hidden in a safe box.

Thank you everyone who has messaged. I really appreciate your kindness.

Thats so scary. This is something I've always feared! The fact they did this in the middle of the day aswell when there would be people out and about is crazy! Did any neighbours see anything?

That’s horrible 🌷I’d feel very shaken too. Really glad the boys are ok.

It's such a violation of your family space, OP. It's horrible to think about it.

But just keep focusing in on the fact that your boys are ok. It's awful that they've taken your jewelry, and I hope that the police might be able to track it down, but at the end of the day, it's just stuff. Your lovely boys are safe and that is all that really matters.

You will probably feel very unsettled for a while. It's horrible to think of strangers moving around inside your house, touching your personal things. That feeling will fade with time, though. How are the boys feeling about what happened?

That's awful OP. How terrifying. Happened to me, but not when I was home. Lost every single piece of Jewellery I own.

So sorry OP.

This is awful, OP, but I’m relieved you’re all ok, physically at least. I wonder, are you Asian? I’m asking because I’m reading more and more about robberies targeting Asian families because they know they’ll have gold. I hope the police catch the bastards.

I’m so sorry. I had a home burglary and it was truly devastating in a way I had never expected. We weren’t home at the time. No advice for you that the police won’t have already given, just want to give you a virtual hug and let you know that you will feel safe in (and enjoy) your home again, even though it seems unlikely now Flowers

Sadly, I'm aware of this trend too.Sad

We had a daytime robbery, although no one was home. I was surprised at the affect it had on both DC, even though they weren't in. Keep an eye on your boys, they may not think it has affected them, hopefully it hasn't, but you never know.

Did they seem to know exactly where the safe box was? Would imply they had been told or had been inside the house before.

What a nightmare. I still remember being burgled around 25 years ago. We lived in a small terrace and didn’t have much, but they took all my jewelers (that I wasn’t wearing), not much but stuff relatives had given me over the years.

They also took all my power tools (some of which had been my ds’s who’d only died 2 years previously) which they wrapped in my clothes and put in my suitcases.

Bastards. It’s just awful. Hope you had some sort of video system and that they catch them.

Its intriguing they made a beeline for the jewellery only.

Poor boys! Were they aware the burglary was happening or did they sleep through?

Sounds suspicious that they left ipads etc & went straight for a safety box. Did they turn the place upside down looking for it?

Report
paralysedbyinertia · 14/04/2021 12:26

When my parents were burgled, they went straight for the safe. Ignored all other valuables.

Fortunately, it had nothing valuable in it, so the bastards got nothing of any worth. My parents still felt utterly violated, though.

Absolutely vile OP. Just want to add on to what other pps have said and to say I hope you are ok and your children. Lowest of the low, absolute scum.

Police told my parents that ipads are rarely taken. I wondered if it might be linked to the "find my iPad" function?

I'm so sorry. I was burgled once and it shook me up horribly. I moved in the end as I felt so jumpy. I hope you can find a way to make yourself feel safe again.

@flashbac

Its intriguing they made a beeline for the jewellery only.

That’s what I thought. Presumably it was hidden and has an access code on. I’d suspect someone who’s been in the house previously to be involved

I was thinking this, too.

Scary, OP. I'm glad you're all OK.
