If you could share one household tip/life hack, what would it be?

Mine would definitely be that drying clothes in sunlight gets rid of tomato/sauce stains. Am weaning my second child and it's a bloody lifesaver. No more soaking things for hours that still come out with orange marks on them.

What other gems are there that I need to know?

The value of a good night's sleep.

Make sure everyone in the household pulls their weight.

Dandelion78 Mon 12-Apr-21 18:28:11

I agree 100% with all of these smile

Learned this on here - if your taps are discoloured with limes scale rub a 2p coin on the tap ... I didn't believe it - but it works !

Always have pasta and pesto in the house, plus eggs.

Dandelion78 Mon 12-Apr-21 18:34:10

@Ragwort Am filing that one away for future reference!

Never go anywhere in the house empty-handed.

skeggycaggy Mon 12-Apr-21 18:35:33

Don’t have too much stuff.

Dandelion78 Mon 12-Apr-21 18:35:48

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie. Eggs definitely and bananas for us too. Kids go through so many!

Baby wipes are magic and get off felt tip pens on varnished tables

Don't have dogs, especially don't have three dogs. Or children. Or live with a partner.

The yellow spray called elbow grease is fantastic at removing stains on white clothes. Spray it on, leave it to soak, stick it in the wash. Even works on white trainers!

Method multi surface spray in tangerine (I think) is the beast kitchen surface cleaner ever. Even takes the splattered oil off the tiles behind the cooker.

Steam mop is a must for laminate floors.

Plants can change the old look of a room. Even if you like the minimalist look a wee floor plant just finishes the room off!

A big blanket thrown on the couch is great for hiding stains, especially on the arms, or just for protecting it.

I painted my really boring grey cement slabs in the back garden last year with white paint and a stencil, and it made it look so much better. I know its a but Pinterest naff but we couldn't afford to replace them and I was so bored during lockdown 🤣. It only took me a couple of hours and about 40/50 quid and everyone comments on how good it looks.

Use a fluffy sock to clean venetian blinds.

When you are cleaning the bath, do it after someone has been in for a nice hot one. So much easier to take any grime off.

Wash socks in a mesh net bag - stops any socks getting lost in the wash and makes them a doddle to pair up. The bags are fine in the tumble dryer too.

NO

I’m throwing an early strop about this thread because I’ve fallen victim to mumsnet “life tips” before

Can confirm that putting veet down the plug hole will not dissolve all the hair in there, it just goes slimy and gross

The babyliss big hair isn’t that good

Roblox thing is a useless little bastard

I won’t be sucked in to tying bags of vinegar around taps and rubbing 2p coins to get rid of limescale and whatever stuff is about to be posted

I can’t handle the heartbreak. I really can’t.

If you are going on a long trip with kids, freeze their juice bottle the night before. Lasts longer and stops them drinking a litre in under five minutes and then needing a wee stop!

Start the first Christmas by putting their stockings DOWNSTAIRS and NOT in their rooms. Helps stop overexcited 3am starts. Wished I thought of it with the first child.

If you pass clothes down, just label them with the surname (only works if you don't have a very commonly occuring surname though!)

Two kitchen related bits: stockpots greatly help many saucy but meh tasting dishes. Little sprinkle of gravy granules sorts out a thin sauce in a matter of seconds.

If the house is upside down and needs a good tidy up, focus on one room at a time and put a washing basket (or similar) in the middle of the room to gather up anything that belongs in a different room. Then distribute around the house at the end. It saves a lot of time going back and forth into different rooms, and getting distracted by other jobs (or maybe it’s just me!)

Hi Mrs Bob!

Mine is Wonder Wipes. Much easier than those magic sponge things.

Batch cook as much as possible.
You can freeze mash potato also.

Ooh, that's a good one! My scattered mind will find that useful.

Biolocical Washingpowder! It's magic! Great for cleaning carpets, settees and other fabric covered items in your home.

(Just use with warm water and a damp cloth.)
