Forgot to put puff pastry in the fridge!

Well... I didn't forget, DH did. Food shop delivered last Sunday (28th) while I was at work, so DH received and put it all away. I'd forgotten about the jusrol puff pastry sheets I'd ordered until just now considering baking tomorrow, and asked him if they had been delivered as they're not in the fridge. Turns out he put them in the cupboard instead.

So, they've been out of the fridge nearly a full week. If I put them in now to use tomorrow will they be OK still? Or beyond saving?

I've had jus rol pastry go off (in the fridge). It got lots of black bits in it. Does it look ok?

That said I think I would probably bin it after a week out of the fridge.

Don't be daft - it's been in the cupboard fully defrosted and not even chilled for over a week!

Straight in the bin, can't believe you would imagine it's fit for anything else!

Test it on DH tonight.

If he's fine tomorrow, you're good to bake.

If it has gone off it will smell weird and have visible discolouration. If it smells right and is a smooth uniform colour then it is fine.

I wouldn't use it, and I'm usually quite relaxed about this kind if stuff.

It depends where it's been. Eg if it's been in an unheated utility room it might be fine. Room temperature prob not. Get it out and sniff it - you'll soon know.

If it smells okay, then I wouldn’t worry. You’re going to be cooking it at a high temp.

I've had the packaging blow up like a balloon even when in the fridge a couple of days too long so I definitely wouldn't risk it out of the cupboard!

Good to know, thank you - only thing I could think of was the butter in it melting and being off, which probably makes it not great in any case... Well I don't think either of us will get that wrong again! 😭

Send DP down the shops for more, he'll remember next time 😂

What is it in pastry that people are so certian will be off?. It's only butter and flour, both of which can be happily kept out of the fridge for a week.

If it's off, you'll know it's off by the appearance and smell.

There isn't even any butter in jus roll pastry!

Would you leave homemade pastry in a cupboard for a week? It'll be revolting, bin it.

My partner did exactly the same with frozen pastry. How did he not notice it was literally frozen when he unpacked it! Bin it.
