freezer door open

hello,

so I have no idea how long the door was open but i realised this morning because the floor outside it was really cold, and then saw it was open a tiny bit. on inspection, the mince meat still had frost inside the packet but Yorkshire puddings were soft enough I could push my nail into one of them and the ice cream wasnt runny but soft enough for me to scrape some off the top with my nail. things like potatoe waffles seemed okay, not warm etc. but I'm really not sure.

pretty peeved off because my little one isnt very well so could of done without having to throw everything out but if I have to then I will :(

I would close the freezer door and think no more about it.

Take the Yorkshires out and have them for tea tonight. But if the mince is still mostly frozen, as it sounds like most things are, then I would certainly keep it in the freezer and use as normal.

I wouldn't take risks with meat/fish but things like vegetables /chips i would still eat.
I got food poisoning from partially defrosted ice cream when i was younger so would bin that too, especially as you say that has gone runny.

I hope you just closed the door and got on with daily life! (maybe the yorkshire puds cooked today, but even if not they won't poison you). All will be fine.

partner came home and said he thinks because the ice cream wasnt runny and was just a tiny bit soft at the top it's probably okay as it would be one of the first things to of started defrosting. feel better about it now.

thanks!

Did exactly this last week, there was a puddle of water on the floor. I shut the freezer door, mopped the puddle and worried no more about it. We've since worked through contents (incl. meat) and all good.

Ours has been left slightly open a bit a few times, usually when it needs defrosted. I just close the door and crack on. No ill effects.
