How often have you been leaving the house?

Not a TAAT but inspired by another one!

How often have you been going out of the house over the past few weeks? And what's your situation wrt schooling / kids / work etc?

I work pt and have young kids (youngest is a baby, eldest mid-primary) and we go out every day otherwise I'd LOSE IT. Having thought about this, I realise that with the ice, DH isn't getting out for his usual morning cycles and so has spent all day every day Mon - Fri in the house for the last 2 weeks.

I work 3 days a week from home - I don't leave the house those days (apart from maybe go in the communal garden) as I finish at 5.30 and then its dinner - bath - bedtime. DC usually do though as DM takes them out.

Usually go out for a walk with the DC/to the park on my non working days, and one day at the weekend (the other day I clean). I go to the supermarket once every 2 weeks (DH and I take it in turns to have a fun outing!)

Half term this week - am aiming for a different (local) park/playground every day Smile

I work from home and I've been out the house 3 times for a walk since the 19th December. Ill be honest my anxiety is through the roof and it makes me feel worse being out than in. But i know it isn't good for me. My skin looks awful, im not sleeping well, I just look terrible. I just need to pluck up the courage to get out.

I take the ancient mutt for a walk round the block every morning. I run 3 X per week.
I shop 2 X per week. I'm bubbled with DSis so go to hers 1 X per week. I go on brisk walks occasionally too.

Every day, to work, I’m a nanny so work in someone’s home obviously, but out to the playground with the children, shop if needed. and out for a walk/shops on the weekend.

If someone has no health related reason why they can’t get out every day at least for a walk I think it’s really unhealthy, and we’ll see a huge rise in people suffering from anxiety after this is over.

I’ll add that I don’t walk to work either as not possible, it’s tube then bus for the last bit if I’m running late. I’ve not ever had an option of staying at home every day and frankly I think that’s a good thing.

@Plump82 are you shielding?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 15/02/2021 20:21

@Plump82 that’s awful. Do you live with anyone or alone? If you’re not shielding that’s really concerning.

Everyday! Midwife in the community so essential really. That and I have a dog so walking him twice a day too. Shop once a week. Run occasionally, minimal though as I’m scared of putting my back/hip out and chiropractor is closed!!

Im out for work 3 days a week, and on the other days I always take the kids out for some fresh air.

Our house isn't that big and we need a bit of space or we all get grumpy!

We’ve been out daily, I don’t work but my DH is working from home, both kids homeschooling. We’ve not been anywhere special though just an hours walk around where we live and back home again, I think we all need it for our sanity.

I go out twice a week.

Once to the shops and once to pick up our GD (who we have a childcare bubble with).

I’m wfh and have one DC at school who is doing his schoolwork independently.

I don’t go for daily walks!

Daily with the dog, twice if I go back round with the elderly neighbours’ dog too. Thank goodness for something I can’t get out of.

@user2941 & @SmidgenofaPigeon i live with my husband. But he is currently working away so i guess it makes it easier for me to just stay in. I definitely acknowledge its not healthy as im not shielding but i think I've got to the stage where I feel quite frightened. I definitely can't manage the shops where i live as they are so busy and the park i live near is just full of big groups of people and it just makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't have diagnosed health anxiety so don't want to say it's because of that, but i definitely don't deal with health "whatifs" very well.

Every day - I have it blocked in my work diary to get out for a 45 minute walk come rain or shine

I haven't been out other than for exercise (which has been in the hours of darkness except twice) since September.

I do have a garden though and have been in that -un-doing a lot of good gardening work because I don't know what I am doing.

WFH full time, no DC. I walk to the local cafe for a coffee each morning, then go for a longer daily lunchtime walk to the supermarket to pick up an item or two, taking the long route round which is about 3km as a round trip. I then run between 5km - 10km each evening. Most weekends I’ll meet a friend or two for a much longer social walk or scenic cycle, or DP and I will walk to meet friends in the park. I’d go mad if I had to stay in the house, particularly in miserable weather.

3 kids 9 -15. I'm out of the house 4 days a week for work. Supermarket once a week. 2x walks a day with the dog. My DH is out at work 5/6 days a week.

At least once a day, sometimes twice. It depends - if I needed to go out a third or fourth time I certainly wouldn’t think “oh no, I’ve already been out twice today so I won’t”. I don’t think 95% of people are taking any notice of the ridiculous “one walk a day” crap anyway.

Working F/T from home, one teen and one adult child both at home. I'm going out for a short walk once a day (only 20-30 mins). Occasionally drop into local shop on way home. That's it. As soon as it gets a bit lighter in the mornings I'm going to incorporate add an early morning walk/jog 3 times a week cos I'm a right lardy arse. Can't wait for lighter evenings, hope it will make a massive difference.

Every day usually for a walk. Shops 2x a week.
DD1 is currently at school 4 days a week so walk to and from school too.
We've all had covid (very mildly) so have just spent three weeks at home which I found extremely difficult.

Every day. Wfh but have a dog that needs walking so I usually have a decent walk with another person/their dog. It's kept me sane (just about)

Quite a lot. Working from home, as is DH, two primary school aged DC and a toddler.
I go for a run in the morning. Take the kids for a walk/to the park on my lunch break. Walk the dog in the evening either alone or with one/some of the DC. My mum is in our bubble as she lives alone so go to hers 2-3 times a week. Supermarket trip once a week.

Every day. Sometimes twice a day. Walking. I have a 10 month old baby on maternity leave. Both he and I dislike being indoors all day. I also don’t think it’s healthy.

WFH, 2DDs primary aged.

2 X daily dog walks; 1x weekly supermarket shop; occasional trips to eg B&M for cleaning stuff or Pets At Home for dog food and chews; occasional trips to the park with the DDs.

Out for a 1-2 hr walk every morning with my dog, sometimes husband or son come too. Very rural. Usually see someone I know though so distanced chats, small community.
Work 5 afternoon/evenings across 7 days, part time from home.
Try to avoid shopping more than 1x week, our local Aldi/Tesco are never very busy.
