It's disgusting. I have Mr Muscle oven cleaner but need a) motivation to do it and b) and tips to make it less soul destroying please!

Honestly, if it's that bad, outsource it to an oven cleaning company.

Definitely. Get a lovely oven cleaning person in if you can afford it.

Do it in stages. Tonight sorry Mr Muscle liberally. Tomorrow morning don rubber gloves and rinse it off. Repeat if necessary. Totally doable!

I prefer Oven pride or Lakeland oven and rack cleaner to Mr M as it’s zero odour and it comes with big bags to soak the racks in. A wiry scrubber is also good for cleaning the racks.

But agree if it’s a disaster zone, might be best for the professionals Wink

Professional clean. I had a guy in recently who said Mr muscle is work of the devil and will do more hard than good - it basically strips the bits and wears away making stuff rusty (I believe him I've seen how awfully corrosive it is and wrecked wracks and stuff). A professional clean is more of a service and well worth it.

Put the racks in that oven cleaning kit overnight. There’s enough liquid in it to pur on the bottom of the oven. I love elbow grease or theres ample choice in home bargains for stuff. Brillo pads and buy a cover for £1 on home bargains to place on the bottom of it. Its a game changer

Yes, do not use oven cleaner. My professional uses something like cif or pink stuff. And he warms the oven a little too. He's only £40 and it's sparkling after

On Amazon, you can get something called Barkeepers Friend
It's a powder, a little goes a long way. It's not as toxic as Mr Muscle but if you do have skin that tends to be sensitive wear gloves.
Spray hot water on the oven, shake the powder over the water. Leave it for an hour.
If it's really skanky, then get a wallpaper scraper and more hot water, spray the hot water and the grease should scrape straight off.
You may have to rinse and repeat depending on how bad it is but I barely have to use any force on mine since I cleaned it with that. I had tried everything before someone recommended this to me.
It's really inexpensive and you can use it in all manner of ways, in a mop for the floor, as a paste to clean stainless steel and the bathroom.
Wonderful stuff.

Sell it as is and buy one that cleans itself and keep up with it. That's what I did.

We had a kitchen extension built and the old oven wouldn't fit in with how I wanted the ovens in the new kitchen to be, so I put the old one on ebay with photos and a very honest description about how bad it was and still got over £100 for it (it was a decent brand and about 3 years old).

I then got 2 AEG pyrolytic self cleaning ones for just under £500 each, which are brilliant.

We've just had to replace one due to a grill fire and managed to find a slightly cosmetically damaged one that was pretty much the same from ebay for only £280.

If you're looking at paying £50 a time for a professional clean, after a few years of not having to do that, you've effectively got yourself a free oven.

Don’t use Mr Muscle or any of those nasty caustic cleaners. Get Oven Pride or Oven Mate. Paint it on. Leave it. Wipe it off. Or get an over cleaning service in.

I hear you! I did mine at Christmas for the first time in a VERY long time, more years than I will admit on here. I was seriously considering getting rid of it and buying a new one. Every time I turned the oven on it made the house smell of old roast dinners, but not in a good way.

I used Mr Muscle and the whole thing was done in well under 2 hours, including glass doors, oven, grill and hob (hob wasn't dirty, though, as I'd kept on top of that).

Remember plenty of newspaper on the floor as the greasy foam goes everywhere. And rubber gloves are essential. And when it's done, and all sparkly and lovely, set a date for the next clean. I've gone for every school holiday so it's getting one this week.

I did mine this morning with those steel scourer things...39p from Home Bargains and Cif...dead easy.

My cleaner also does ovens. She did mine and it looks brand-new, definitely worth the money and much less nasty than doing it myself.
