Possible reasons for my ex (who I unfortunately still have to live with) to be hiding a phone in my car?

The obvious one would be to track the car's movements.

wrigglewriggles Tue 02-Feb-21 20:15:57

That's what I was thinking. Any idea how I can check/find out?

Smash the phone to bits and leave it on his pillow.

murbblurb Tue 02-Feb-21 20:18:26

or just turn it off??

Wishitsnows Tue 02-Feb-21 20:19:08

Chuck it in a bin

wrigglewriggles Tue 02-Feb-21 20:19:37

I tried to turn it off. He's set it so you need a pin code to be able to do so.

Gaffer tape it to a bin truck..

Emptytank Tue 02-Feb-21 20:21:08

Put in in your outside on bin day

justthecat Tue 02-Feb-21 20:21:37

Destroy it and never admit to knowing about it. Then make sure he has no further access to your car

Gaffer tape it to a bin truck..

Yes, do this!!

I think that's against the law to track you. Hand it in to the police and tell them

londongirl12 Tue 02-Feb-21 20:24:49

Does he have a history of weird things like this? Can you make sure he doesn't have access to your car? I'd not say anything and put it in a random bin. Can you move out?

PQWQ Tue 02-Feb-21 20:27:33

Either tracking or recording voices.

DavidsSchitt Tue 02-Feb-21 20:28:44

Tie it to a neighbours cat 🐈

iMatter Tue 02-Feb-21 20:30:04

Stick it in the nearest bin

Ch3rish Tue 02-Feb-21 20:31:54

Wait until the battery runs out and leave it somewhere random

missrm Tue 02-Feb-21 20:34:00

To track or record conversations. Get it launched into a pond! Can you get out the house or get him out?

CisMyArse Tue 02-Feb-21 20:35:15

He must have a key or regular access to your car to keep charging it?

cheeseybean Tue 02-Feb-21 20:38:43

Police!

icelollycraving Tue 02-Feb-21 20:39:24

Do you share a car?
How long do you anticipate having to live together?
He’s tracking you and or recording you.
Depending on how I felt, I’d either let him hear what I wanted him to hear or keep the phone somewhere else. Don’t do anything that puts you at any risk in the interim. Can you tell someone close to you what’s going on? (Not in ear shot of any devices).

Lucked Tue 02-Feb-21 20:41:47

Where did he hide it?

KirstenBlest Tue 02-Feb-21 20:42:24

Wrap it in some foil.

wrigglewriggles Tue 02-Feb-21 20:42:39

Car is in both of our names but he has another car if his own. I'm the only one who uses this one but he does still have access.
I'm actually going to talk to the police tomorrow (was advised to do so over the phone today) about him recording me on his phone in the house. So will bring up this phone in the car too.
We're not in the UK but I think pretty similar laws would be in place.
Unfortunately, I can't afford to keep paying the mortgage and live elsewhere. He won't leave. Have to wait til our house sells.

When you next take the car out alone maybe leave it somewhere public or as others have said, it can go for a ride in the bin lorry! It all sounds rather unnerving though OP, well done for bringing it up with the police.
