Anyone else got or sent a Wilson? Do younger people know the reference?

I've just been chatting to the admin assistant looking after our head office. She says she's alone there all the time, expects that to stay the same for the next 6 weeks and ends up singing at the top of her voice.

So I've bought one of these and am sending it to head office.

but now I'm scared that she's too young to have seen Castaway.....

has anyone else been doing the Wilson thing for a colleague and please please tell me young people will get the reference!

I didn’t know ‘sending a Wilson’ was a thing but now DS is going to want one 😂. He’s 11 so is that young enough?

Haha yes I would get the reference but I am 31 so not that young I suppose.

It always bothered me from a child watching that film how quickly his fiance moved on... When he comes back she has at least one child and I can't remember the child's age and his time on the island now but she must have moved on to a new relationship pretty soon. Given that she couldn't be sure if he was dead or alive.,it just seemed quick to me!

It's a thing I invented today - which means someone else will have been doing it for months, no doubt..... twas ever thus.

Definitely awesome for DS aged 11 :)

On a reasonably recent episode of the kardashians one of them made a Wilson out of a wig and neck brace etc as she had covid and was locked in her bedroom for weeks and was losing the plot.

So if any young ish ones watch the kardashians they may remember that!

She's be early 20s.

But they just do 80s culture anyway don't they? That's what seems to happen anyway...

I'm 32 and would know that it was "Wilson" if it arrived at my office. Although i'm not sure i'd immediately connect the dots as to why (as in, because I was alone at the office) If I was working somewhere remote/rural/outdoorsy maybe.

The only Wilson I can think of is Harold Wilson. (And the groundsman from when I was at school)

The kardashian “Wilson” was named -she was called Quarantina!!

Don’t know if she was Tina for short, but that would work Grin

How about Wilson from Home Improvement? Not socially distanced, and I doubt the fence is a good substitute for a mask, so probably not.

My DD in early teens saw a clip on YouTube so it must be doing the rounds. We watched the film a few weeks ago. So yes, possible that she'll get the reference but who knows?

Kids at the secondary school I teach at know about Wilson.
They don’t know about Big though. They were shocked at what a good film it is when I recommended it.

I'm mid 20s but I only know the reference as a friend at school was called Wilson (first name) and we had to re-enact film scenes. Guess which scene his group picked...
