I think cupping is to draw out ' bad stuff'. You light a taper in it to create a partial vacuum and then stick it on the skin. Gruesome.

The cupping and scarificator things are for blood letting. The scarificator makes lots of clean cuts in the skin, then the cups are heated and put over to create a vacuum and draw out the blood.
