I've started a new job a few months ago. It's ft and I am just knackered ALL the time. I used to work pt and I was so much more happier and calmer and though I was still very busy I felt I had time to myself / hobbies / see friends etc. But now that's all gone. I don't have time for anything and if I so I just feel tired. I really don't think my work place will allow me to work pt for good.

So do I leave? We don't need me to work but it's obviously a massive bonus. Wwyd?

I could have written this 2 weeks ago but I spoke to my manager and they've let me reduce my hours I've gone from 5 days to 3.5 days
Loads better

Can you ask to go PT for now (home schooling reasons etc)? If not I would stick it out for now and look for something PT. It will look poor on your CV if you just quit, and it’s not a good idea to leave the workplace completely in case your circumstances change

What job is it? Is it what you did part-time?

A lot of jobs are dreadful in terms of expectations/workloads these days. I would say it's pretty normal to feel frazzled working full time!

Do you actually enjoy the work the job entails?

Sounds pretty normal to me. I don't know anyone who works full time and isn't knackered. It's even harder with kids - getting them up and out for nursery or school (in normal circumstances), doing a full day's work, scrambling to collect kids on time, getting them home, making dinners and putting the washing machine on and then baths and bedtime . . . it's never-ending and it's bloody hard.

Working FT with a family = exhaustion and v little time for life / hobbies.

I do it. And have done ever since having children but I love my job and I love the stability and financial independence so it balances out. But you have to be getting enough out of it to make it worth it.

I do feel sad sometimes when my friends discuss their more fun stuff like long dog walks and crafts etc.

But you can’t have it all and I’ve made peace with that Smile

I feel a bit shit asking to work pt as I've only just started this job 3 months ago. I honestly don't think I can carry on like this. I can see it affecting my health physically and mentally in the long term and that's just not worth it.
I think I will have to ask them to work pt as the other alternative is to just leave. I feel bad for springing this on them so soon but at least I know I'm not the only one feeling this.

Meeee. My new-ish job is brutal, by the end of day three I feel like I should be in hospital, it’s destroying my body, I can’t sleep because I dread each shift.
