Constant muscle twitches, starting to worry [sad]

Beebityboo · 15/01/2021 16:51

For the past two weeks I have been having near constant muscle twitches all over my body. It started in my face but now it's pretty much everywhere and it's all day every day. I ignored it at first because I have awful health anxiety and my stress levels have been through the roof, but it doesn't seem to get better/change even when I am relaxed. I really, really don't want to venture out to a GP about this as it isn't painful and I have no other symptoms, it's just annoying!
Obviously I have googled and now feel like there might be something neurologically wrong, can anyone please give me any ideas on how to stop it/what else it could be? Covid cases are soaring in my town and I'm disabled so really want to avoid a GP practice Sad.

I had facial twitches and my uppers arms twitched too. Then i got B12 injections and i ain’t twitching anymore!

Have you been tested for low B12?

I used to get a lot of muscle twitches. I agree that it can be some kind of deficiency. I think (if memory serves) magnesium supplements can also help.

I get them when I've not been sleeping well.

... or when I'm stressed.

I had a period of muscle twitching many years ago and was prescribed high strength magnesium tablets which sorted it out. You could try getting some Dead Sea Salts (high in magnesium) and add them to your bath for relaxation.

I had the same when my Vit D & B12 were low. Maybe ask your GP if they can arrange blood tests for you. Any other symptoms like fatigue & 'woolly headedness'?

Yep, stress...

Also, weirdly - I used to use a growth serum for my eyelashes and it gave me facial twitches. I didn't figure it out until I couldn't afford to buy it and the twitching stopped. The lashes were then short too, but I was relieved!

I get them all over very regularly. I can visibly see the muscles in my legs jumping sometimes.
I’ve had every test you can think of (including neurological ones and an MRI etc). I was found to have very low ferritin levels so have to take strong prescribed iron tablets. I also take magnesium which helps a bit. If I get slightly dehydrated it starts up again and also if I get stressed or tired. Neurologist told me it’s very common and almost always a sign of either a deficiency, chronic anxiety or a benign fasculation syndrome.

Sometimes I go for months with constant twitches in my thighs. You can see the muscle twitching in an 8 inch strip.
I've put it down to stress. Had it for the past 20 years on and off. Then it disappears again without a trace.

GP will initially most likely be a telephone call OP so you won't have to go out anywhere if that's what stopping you.

Hmm I have a history of low b12 so maybe that's it.

Well worth checking out. Do you get pins and needles?

I'm twitching right now! I have severe anxiety so put it down to that. But now I'm wondering if I'm deficient in something (apart from brains!😁)

I used to get this, magnesium supplement and a banana every day fixed it

Report
Beebityboo · 16/01/2021 18:23

I'm going to try magnesium/banana every day and drinking more water. If it's still happening in a fortnight I'll call the GP. I've managed to convince myself I have ALS or a tumor so have been in a health anxiety hole for two days now Sad. Trying to reassure myself as I have no otter symptoms but it is literally all day, they do not stop and it's all over my whole body.

@Beebityboo when I saw my neurologist I was very anxious about ALS and he said it’s extremely rare in women under the age of 60 and twitching wouldn’t happen all over the body with it. It would happen in the one area where the muscle is weakening and there would be visible muscle wastage happening in that area too. He said he’s always much more concerned about twitches if they are only in one spot and never go away. Ones that happen all over the body and come and go are normally always nothing serious x

I had this for over a year (mostly my eyelids though). GP suggested b12 supplements but they didn’t help. It suddenly cleared up when I saturated taking vitamin d this year. If I miss a few it comes back.

Why don't you call GP tomorrow anyway. They will more than likely do a telephone consult and refer you for a blood test for first investigations

@Beebityboo I am experiencing similar currently. Mine have started about 4 weeks after my COVID vaccine so not sure if related?
Do you mind me asking how you are feeling now and if you still experience the twitching? I have had a blood test last week (awaiting results) and have just started taking magnesium. Thank you

Report
ACCx · 25/09/2021 16:29

@KLMoo hey I know this was a while ago but mine also started around 4.5 weeks after my vaccine. I wonder if it is related? I also suffer with health anxiety massively so I’m assuming the worst of course.

I know this is an old thread but I’ve just started to suffer with eye twitching and like many of you suffer from health anxiety. Just wondered if it cleared up in the end and what helped? I’m obviously fearing the worst.
