Car use during lockdown

How is everyone managing to keep their car working during this lockdown? I've had to jump start mine once this year. It needs a good long run, but if we can't go further than 5 miles I don't know how to remedy this?

Could you sort out a circuit and drive around and around.
If you get stopped you can explain the 5 miles thing away

I haven’t seen anything about a magic 5 miles? Where has that come from?

We’ve been driving round in the car. Admittedly we do live rurally - our nearest big supermarket is 15 miles away but surely you can just drive where you want as long as you have a reason (food, pet needs, picking up essential supplies for home repairs etc... how would anyone know whether you were really doing any of those things or not??)

I sometimes take a scenic route home from the supermarket to give her a proper warm-up in all gears.

I don't have a restricted area, but a 5 mile radius from home would include a decent selection of roads to do this.

We take both of our cars out at the weekend for about an hour each. If stopped we would say we are on the way to the supermarket. We live rurally so take the scenic route round all the villages.

I moved house during the first lockdown so that involved lots of driving - have noticed that I haven't done so much now so see it could be a problem - have to take DS to work so that is 30 + miles a day, rotate the cars so not too much problem with flat batteries yet
Cars hate short journeys - best to find the long way to the supermarket
