British Airways from Stansted, anyone flying with them next year.....

We normally fly with them, didn't last year as I was recovering from breast cancer, booked the accommodation for 2021 in the middle of LD1 (never thinking it would still be hanging around Confused in the absence of an eye rolling emoticon. Grin

I was furloughed, with far too much time to think and decided that LHR might be a safer bet (vis a vis) cancelled flights or limited dates.

I am bored and to amuse myself I have just gone to price the flights out of STN and the BA website is not throwing up any Stansted availability. I have tried random Saturdays all through the summer to no avail. They only fly to Malaga from Stansted on a Saturday.

Anyone know anything ???

BA don’t fly out of Stansted.

They do in a manner of speaking.

They have done for several years at the weekend in the summer months.

The Embraer 190's used to fly from their last job into London City and instead of paying hangaring fees to sit idle at LCY they earned their keep by flying to Malaga, Ibiza and Faro and one other place which escapes me.

So on paper they have until recently flown from STN, but appear to have to use a Dublin expression done a fade, without an announcement.

It would appear that Southampton airport is the favoured child this year. Grin

I just looked into this OP, BA have suspended all the city flyer operations until October.

@charliespie

Thank you so much for your help, good swerve us going to LHR this year, they did that relatively quietly, as I normally notice stuff like that.

Again thank you.

I would understand if Ryanair and self-flagellation was not something you ever consider, but other than them, are there other flights to your destination from another airline?

I used to get the midday BA flight out of Stansted on a Sunday, much cheaper than doing the same route from LCY later on Sunday night. I'd use LCY Monday-Friday, Stansted on Sunday. My company doesn't pay for any flights as you can see Grin

You probably can't find any flights as they've temporarily suspended that route. They were using Embraer's for Stansted flights (like a PP said, to avoid them sitting on the tarmac at City for 24h), they're small planes that were never full so it makes no sense to fly them right now, they'll be half empty. They were 90% used by commuters, even the LCY services have been drastically reduced. Most Canary Wharf type employees are now working for home.

Oh, I miss City flights and all those strange combinations of departure and arrival airports BA would fly sometimes...

Jet2.com fly to loads of places from Stansted.

They were using Embraers because that's what the city flyer fleet consists of.

Long long time ago, (thirty years Shock) I worked in London and spent the weekends in North Yorkshire, I used to fly out of Leeds Bradford into Luton on something like the 6.00 am with Brown Brothers who used to hangar in Leeds over the weekend, and then train and tube it down and be at my desk for 9.30,it was a finely tuned operation.

I normally scheduled no meetings on Monday or certainly not until after 11.00 am, one morning we were circling Luton for what felt like ages, I asked the cabin crew what the delay was and I was told some people hadn't finished their breakfast.

Wouldn't get that now. Grin

Just told DH and he said well done, and something else under his breath. Grin

I pretended I hadn't heard, so he repeated well done, I thought you were being silly at the time.

We are ok, because we live close to LHR, but how cheesed off would you be if you had to (as per last line of the article) pay for your own accommodation at LHR the night before.
